However, it shouldn't exactly smell. It could be a number of reasons, ranging from poor hygiene to an infection.

If it really bothers you that much, you could put a think ulta pad on your underware when you know a lot is coming out, this will also help reduce the smell. You could take showers daily if you don't already. When you get discharge that is normal, and it can be runny, heavy or which ever way every girl is different. Remember that.
