Ok. I'm getting a laptop soon. I definitely won't be getting the most expensive one out there, but i wanted to know (i have no idea where to look or find out) which is better, mac or a PC? which brand of PC is generally better? You don't have to be specific with speed and stuff, memory and functionality are mainly what i'm looking for.
Thanks =)

Very few Windows programs will work on a Mac, and vice-versa.
I recommend a PC because:
-PC experience is more valuable
-There are many, many more programs for Windows
-It's easier to fix a PC when something goes wrong with it. When bad things happen to your Mac(and they will), you will not be able to fix it yourself.
For a PC, get these specs:
-1.6-2.0GHz dual-core OR 2.6-3.4GHz single-core
-1-2GB RAM for Windows XP OR 2-3GB RAM for Windows Vista
-80-150GB Storage
-No graphics card
-No sound card
Most computers on the market will be slightly less than those specifications, but if you want a comfortably fast computer that will last a while, that's what you want.
Brand doesn't matter. At all. Just ignore the brand name entirely.

What is your opinion on Panda AntiVirus Software?
What is the best paid antivirus software?
I've never used it. The online scan is famous, but I've never heard anything about the paid version.
NOD32 is the best antivirus there is:
http://eset.com
The software is extremely well-designed and the virus database is known Internet-wide for being the best.

What is a good, free, anti-virus software? I had Norton, but it is way too expensive for me to renew.
I need something that will protect me from viruses when I'm using the Internet.
Here's my free antivirus comparison:
http://antivirus.theymos.com
I use Avast. It protects against spyware as well as viruses. It's heavy on system resources, though. If you have a slow computer, use Antivir.

I just loaded Frostwire onto my computer, because I hear it's safer and a better program than Limewire. Only whenever I type something in the search bar it says "Frostwire is currently connecting to the network. Your search may not return many results until you are fully connected to the internet".
So I waited a few minutes then tried again and the same message popped up. What's going on? My internet connection is fine (i have DSL) and all my pages are loading fine. It's just the program. Help!
Thanks in advance!

okay, i accidentally deleted rundll32 was a virus, because i did research on it. and everything kept saying it was a virus. and now when i click on my "control panel" it won't let me open it saying it can't find "rundll32". so that was a big mistake i made. i don't have a reformat CD or anything, because i tried looking for it.. but i don't know where it went. and i don't want to install anything like "FREE SCAN" because i know you're going to have to register. plus, cause i'm under 18 so i don't have a credit card or anything, please help? i think i just need rundll32 back for right now.. so i can ask my sister's boyfriend to reformat it for me after i get rundll32.
If you have a version of Windows older than NT(2000,ME,98,95), it is impossible to fix your problem without completely reinstalling windows. If you have more recent versions:
There should be an extra copy of rundll32 in:
D:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache
Just copy move that back to:
D:\WINDOWS\system32
If that file is also gone, you must find your windows install CD. There is no way to fix this problem without your install CD. There are many different versions of rundll, and it would be difficult to find the proper version online.
Once you find your install CD, or acquire it from wherever you bought your computer, put it in the computer, go to start, run, and type:
sfc /scannow

Does anyone know or what site I can go to that can explain "HOW" Anciect Rome changed from a Monarchy to a Republic? I tried googling it but it keeps giving me information on how life was when it was a Monarchy and when it was a Republic. I'm not looking "WHAT" it was like, I'm looking "HOW" it changed so.
The king was assassinated. When a king dies, the senate decides who the next one will be. The senate and people really, really hated the recently-killed king, so they decided to just do away with the whole monarchy and instead give the senate the king's powers.
It's an interesting form of revolution, actually. I'm not an expert, by I don't think this sort of thing has ever happened again.

I just got a new Windows Vista computer.. I've had it for about a month now. At first it worked amazingly well but but it takes about 2 solid minutes for any program to open or for any webpage to load. I have iTunes, MSN messenger, AIM, and Limewire all on this computer.
Is there I way I can fix this without wiping everything? I'm desperate. Thanks in advance!
Follow my guide:
http://www.advicenators.com/talkaboutmetopic.php?t=223&userboard_id=38985
Pay particular attention to the first step. Uncheck everything in msconfig that you don't need running *all the time*. This won't prevent you from running them, it just stops them from running 24/7.
Instead of running both MSN messenger and AIM, consider running pidgin, qnext, or SIM. These allow you to send and receive on both AIM and MSN, in one program. Links:

This a question for any teachers or scientists out there.
I'm doing a small project on some phylums that my Zoology teacher assigned me. My professor is really helpful and posts links on our school web site to help us with research. Well, there weren't any links for the phylum Rotifera on there. I emailed her and she put up a few more links, but no matter where I look, I cannot find the CORRECT classes that make up the phylum Rotifera!
The web sites I've found all say different classes for that phylum and I don't know which ones are correct!
I figured I'd ask on here to see if anyone knew before I go to my professor for some more help.
Anything?
Monogononta, Bdelloidea, and Seisonidea.

Remember that you're not writing a paper that will change the future of humanity. It's a school project. Accuracy only matters to a certain degree.

Dude! Is there any freaking website that actually has working Online Icon codes. I have been to 1001 sites and none of them work. Myspace.com/insaneman717
It's very simple:
You can get the direct URL by uploading the image you want to use to tinypic. I think it's the bottom link they give you.

so, i just got a laptop last night, and my mom said that she will get me a router(sp?) for my birthday in 2 months. and i have a few questions about routers.
1. we have itnernet through the phone company, so, even if im in my bedroom, with a router, i can still get internet?
2. how much does a good one cost?
3. do you have to charge it like, over night or whatever?
4. am i going to have to call anyone or activate the router, or do i just plug it in, and it works?
thanks for all your help!
A router splits your connection into multiple ports, and sometimes wireless. It also acts like a firewall. After you get a router, you have no need to run a firewall on your computer.
I made you a crude diagram, it will help you understand it better:
http://img521.imageshack.us/my.php?image=routerrm0.png
I forgot to say it in the diagram, but the connection starts at the wall and ends at any of the computers.
Wireless has a range of about 200ft. The range is less if there are obstructions. If you're within the range, you should have no problem getting a connection. Your computer will need a wireless card, though. Almost all laptops come with one, desktops usually don't.
A good router costs about $60. I recommend the Linksys WRT45GL wireless router.
You do not have to charge it. It's plugged into the wall.
Setting up a router may be difficult for you. Read the manual carefully. If you set it up properly, it will work without having to activate anything. You won't have to call your ISP.
Limewire and similar programs won't work if you have a router installed without special configuration. Search:
Most Internet programs will work, but programs where you upload stuff like webservers and P2P programs won't.
If you don't secure your wireless network, anyone within range can see exactly what you do online, including credit cards and passwords you enter. Make sure you secure your network, it should feature prominently in the manual.

(Viam inveniam aut faciam) - that quote is everywhere. Now I've found out what it means, what I don't know is where it's from. A movie? A song?
I need to know really badly while its so popular all of a sudden!
It was allegedly spoken by Hannibal. Hannibal was a commander in the city-state of Carthage, 2190 years ago.
Thoughts and ideas spread across the Internet like viruses. It just takes a few dozen strategically placed people to start a full-blown phenomenon. See this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meme
It may be that someone famous or semi-famous used this quote, and others copied them. Or it could be that the quote just reached a "critical mass", and started propagating much more rapidly.

Hi im on the nutrisystem diet and it requires
8,8 oz glasses of water a day
I was wondering, can i drink all of it at once or should i spread it through out the day or can i drink 3 servings at once..or does it have to be all 8 glasses seperate ?
Thanks!
Don't worry about that. Drink when you're thirsty, not more or less. The "8 glasses of water" claim, while common, is scientifically unfounded, and it isn't recommended by any serious nutritionist. It won't *harm* you, but it's unnecessary. Because you'll be holding more water, you'll also weigh more(though you won't appear larger).

£6.00 ?
$16.00 or $6.00? i know it has to do with the UK.
Every country has a different kind of money; this is the UK's money, called pounds sterling. The exchange rate changes all the time; right now £6 is equal to around $11.71. If you read this a week from now, the exchange rate will no longer be accurate. Search Google for "6GBP to USD" and Google will automatically tell you the current exchange rate.

Is there a way to get your own P.O. box if you are under 18?
How about if you send one from your parents' P.O. box, is there a chance that they'll find out?
If you want to remain anonymous, just send the letter without a return address. That's fine; it will go through (unless you made an error).
If you want to send by P.O. box, just mail normally, but write the P.O. box as the return address. You don't need to go to the post office to mail from a P.O. box, just to receive mail.
If you use your parent's P.O. box, they will get it first unless you obtain their mail key and get the mail before them. You won't get caught by the post office for doing this, but you might get caught by your parents.
You can get a P.O. box if you're under 18, but they're expensive. Your parents will not be notified, and you don't need their permission, but they *can* forbid the post office from giving you one, if they know that you want one and they don't want you to have one.

wich is better ps3 or xbox 360 or xbox 360 elite and tell me why and can halo 3 work on regular xbox 360
You need to do research into the games already available and the games that will be available in the future. Pick whichever console has the most games you want. Here is a list:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ps3_games
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_xbox_360_games
If you get the 360, don't get the arcade version. Some features won't work on the arcade version, and you'll be disappointed to not have them available.
If you're planning on using the 360 as your "media center", get the elite. Otherwise, the 360 pro will be fine.
Halo 3 will work on all 360 versions, but it may be missing some features on the arcade version.
Note that ONLY the 80GB(most expensive) PS3 can play PS2 games. The others can only play PS3 games.

I have a lexar USB Flash drive, when i plug it in an error comes up saying usb device not recognized bla bla bla.
on device manager, Universal serial bus controllers, UNKOWN DEVICE, properties,
it says that there is No DRIVER is installed (i think this is the problem but it was working fine for the past 3 months). heres the confusing thing, i clicked the DRIVER tab at the top and it has information about the driver provider (microsoft), the driver date (7/1/2001), the driver version (5.1.2600.0) and the digital signer (microsoft windows publisher) but when i click DRIVER DETAILS, it clearly says that there is not driver installed (no driver is required or has been loaded for this device).!!!!
how do i fix this? I have tried:
restarting my computer
unplug, replug
using other computers
Oh and it didnt come with a CD.
Does anyone know how i can fix this problem, or if they know where to download a "driver"?
Thanks so much in advance and sorry if it was a bit too long just wanted to give you as much information as needed.
Thanks once again
Kronix
Download the drivers here:
http://www.lexar.com/drivers/index.html
Pick the correct driver according to your device and operating system. Contact lexar if you have trouble.
Also, driver info in Device Manager is always useless. There's no point in looking there.
