rundll32

Question Posted Tuesday February 26 2008, 6:48 pm

okay, i accidentally deleted rundll32 was a virus, because i did research on it. and everything kept saying it was a virus. and now when i click on my "control panel" it won't let me open it saying it can't find "rundll32". so that was a big mistake i made. i don't have a reformat CD or anything, because i tried looking for it.. but i don't know where it went. and i don't want to install anything like "FREE SCAN" because i know you're going to have to register. plus, cause i'm under 18 so i don't have a credit card or anything, please help? i think i just need rundll32 back for right now.. so i can ask my sister's boyfriend to reformat it for me after i get rundll32.

If you have a version of Windows older than NT(2000,ME,98,95), it is impossible to fix your problem without completely reinstalling windows. If you have more recent versions:

There should be an extra copy of rundll32 in:
D:WINDOWSsystem32dllcache
Just copy move that back to:
D:WINDOWSsystem32

If that file is also gone, you must find your windows install CD. There is no way to fix this problem without your install CD. There are many different versions of rundll, and it would be difficult to find the proper version online.

Once you find your install CD, or acquire it from wherever you bought your computer, put it in the computer, go to start, run, and type:
sfc /scannow
