about

I'm a vegan. I like glam rock and androgynous males. I have two cats. they're mystical beings. I'm going to college in less than a month.

advice

Ok, every summer i have the same sleep scheduel, like 3a.m.-2p.m. but now that i'm getting older and that i have a job i just am tired all the time. By the time i wake up over half the day is gone. So now i see mostly night and thats tiring too. I don't want to go on sleep aids but if i try to fall asleep i can't its just gotta happen naturaly. Any ideas? I rate high for good advice!

there are two methods I use to get myself out of weird sleeping habits. they're probably both pretty bad, but they're what works for me.

1. set an alarm to wake up very early even though you've gone to bed just a few hours before. you could probably also try waking up an hour earlier every day until you're on a good schedule.

2. don't sleep. declare one night a dance night and just dance the entire night. then stay awake the entirety of the next day. don't plan on doing much the next day because you will be very tired, but that will remain until you get to a sensible bed time.

I definitely suggest trying the first one before the second. the second is more drastic, but you'll get into a schedule faster.

Hi, I'm a 23 year old girl who's never been to college(I did the whole get out on my own and job hop sort of thing). Now I'm thinking, well, I'm not going to be able to really do anything I want to do without going. I've thought about it and I think I really want to go now. I'm unemployed and live with my fiance who works, making pretty good money. What I want to know is, is it still possible for me to recieve any kind of financial aid? What I'm thinking is I'll do my core classes at the university center, then transfer to the main university. Oh, and I've recieved 2 scholarships (not for the university, for a tech school and a nursing program) in the past which I ultimately did not use. Will that count against me? How hard would it be for me to go back, knowing all the kids I went to school with have mostly already graduated, and I'll be in class with kids 4 ot 5 years younger than me??? Thanks in advance.

I don't know about financial aid, but going back as a non-traditional student shouldn't be too difficult. you haven't been away from school so long that you don't remember any basic skills. math might be hard for you to jump back in on. in regards to dealing with the young-ins, you won't be alone. in my sophomore year of high school I took french at the local college before school and most of my class was made up of non-traditional students. both of my parents (who are 50 each) are in college (my dad for his bachelors and my mother for her masters). it's really not that hard to get back into the swing of things.

Whenever I drink soda, (I only drink diet), when I swallow it after the first few sips, it burns my stomach really bad. What's wrong??

when something in your body hurts it means you've done something wrong to it. there are a number of solutions:

1. stop drinking all soda.
2. go to the doctor.

I personally would do both of these. a doctor tends to know more than a bunch of teenagers on an advice site.

i want an ipod nano
and i was just wondering how much do they cost?
wheres a good place to get them at a cheap price?

apple offers refurbished products at a discounted rate. if you hunt around their webpage you'll find a list of returned and refurbished products. I bought my iBook G4 refurbished and it runs exactly the same as any other iBook, but I spent about $100 less on it. I also bought my mom a shuffle for $50 instead of the $100ish if I had bought it new.

did the "skinny jeans" phase originate in the fourties/fifties or the eighties?!

it began in the 1950s with Teddy Boys in England who wore skinny leather pants. There's a pseudodocumentary/farce on the Beatles called The Rutles that explains the allure of the skinny trouser. anyway, around 1980 there was a resurgence as a tribute to the late John Lennon. that started the trend with denim.

if you actually think about it, skinny jeans are a lot like sturdy fascimilies of Elizabethan mens' tights that they wore underneath bloomers. nothing is never really invented, just rehashed.

Hi. I have a kitten (named Shadow) who's 2 months old. She used to be very fluffy, but as of late she's been losing fur. We know it's not shedding for several reasons (we don't see fur all over the place, or have it on us after holding her, etc.) We thought it might have been soap from giving her a flea bath, or maybe something else that got on her. We have five other cats, one of them as young as she, and they're all fine. They eat the same food, drink the same water, and since Shadow is still pretty young, she doesn't go anywhere out of our yard when outside. Does anyone know anything that might be causing her fur to thin, but not spread to the other cats?

hey. vets are experts on animals like cats. you don't even have to take your cat to an office, just CALL the vet. it's free and you can describe your symptoms and see if he recommends bringing your cat in. then you'll know solidly what's what.

At school today, we were discussing the French Revolution in History class. The teacher was talking about how back then 97 % of French people were Catholic and they stuck firmly to tradition. We then started contrasting that to these times.
Then out of the blue he asked how many people believed in a Christian God. Not one person put their hand up. I didn't at first because I was embarassed, but then I did. I was the only one.
Later I was thinking.. I'm not sure it was right for my teacher to ask this. Is there any sets of rules on this type of thing? Like are teachers not meant to discuss issues like religion, politics, etc? I'm usually pretty closed-up about this kind of thing.

It really bothers me when I think about it, because I don't see why it was necessary. I graduate high school in a few months and was thinking of saying something to him at the end of the year. So, can someone let me know their opinion on this? Was it wrong for him to ask this?

Thanks.

it is not wrong for teachers to speak in such a way about religion. Here The Bible can be used as literature and religion can be taught as a basis for politics. We learned about Islam and Hinduism and other major world religions freshmen year as a basis for the conflicts we studied in government. It is completely okay for him to poll students about their religious choices. He cannot, however, explain his own beliefs (as his own) within the school, indoctrinate students into believing a certain way, or refrain from teaching a subject based on its religious nature.

My mother and me never had a 'great' relationship...she never was around when I was growing up, etc. Anyway so my grandma got sick and we're building a relationship.

I never do that good at school but this term I really want to. I have 5 days until test and to tell you the truth I haven't opened a book! I have about 3 weeks of exams and I really want to do and make my mum and myself proud.

See my mum is really pissed at me because I don't study and I'm online as soon as I arrive home. I know this is bad and I want to change...but the more I want to change the more I can't. So I was wondering the best way to concentrate on books and not the computer. Please DON'T give me a site because it really doesn't work. Jus tell me something that works for you...

have you tried studying at school? find a teacher who stays late and use his/her room to study or study in the school library. last year I started studying after school for APs 4 nights a week (and Sundays I spent at B&N). it eliminates the distractions of home and puts you in a mind to study even before you leave school.

My mum told me I'm fat today and I know I am but the way she said it made me feel like I should be anerexic.

She was petit in high school and when she had me she was still relly small. When she had my brother she got ffat but I feel alot of pressure to be thin. This summer I want to go gym like everyday but I don't know how to lay off me...she really bothers me abut my weigh and I will lose it...but in time!!!!!

She makes me feel bad...she actually makes me want to eat!!

I'd bet you money that you're not fat at all. my mom told me yesterday that I could stand to lose a few pounds.

I'm a size six. last year I lost 40 pounds and regained most of it. I feel exactly the same.

this, however, is not enough for mothers. or anyone. a lot of negative compliments tend to rise out of personal insecurity. in middle school I made fun of dorks. hell, I am a dork. my mother is well past 200 pounds and wears plus sizes in most stores. she'll never admit to it and she'll force herself into clothes she buys that match mine because I'm young and cool and hip. but she knows inside that she can't be me, so she wants to make me into her. right now she's dieting. again. I think she wants to balance out the weight between us, but I may be wrong.

now then. you're not fat. if you think you're fat you should look into some fat pride groups before diet groups. even if you're thin and waify you'll still feel "fat". it's all about confidence. I can carry 150 pounds and feel as fantastic as I did at 135. I can wear the same clothes. I don't feel guilty when I eat something I want to eat. consider the number of beautiful big girl models. fat is mental. ignore your mother.

*not sure of topic category*

I want to make some crafts, like DIY stuff, but I don't want to go out and buy a lot of stuff and supplies.

Does anyone know any simple, easy crafts that don't require a lot of work and can be done in a small amount of time?

PS - Sites, links to pics, ect. would be very helpful. Thanks!

there's crafting and crafting. most people will direct you towards grandmothery crafting (Martha Stewart, tea cosies, plastic sweaters, etc.). however, there's a really great forum for younger people at craftster.com that will give you tons of neat ideas and methods and help.

for school we have to bring in lyrics to a song we like..and it HAS to be one that we actually like because we are going to be doing stuff with it but it has to be school appropriate..meaning no swearing,no "i wanna screw my hoes with all m money up in herr"

have you tried listening to black eyed peas? a lot of their songs also come in "clean" versions.

if all else fails, what did you listen to in childhood? maybe you can revisit some of that music.

i have a wart on my leg. i have heard that putting duct tape on it helps or something. is this true? by the way, i am 15/f and i already have a doctor's appointment for this so don't tell me to go to the doctor.

duct tape works. after about two days of wearing duct tape over your wart your immune system is triggered because the skin surrounding the wart does not receive enough oxygen. then your immune system sends t-cells to the area surrounding the wart. eventually the wart turns black or dark brown and falls off. usually in a week or two.

basically anything that removes oxygen contact from the wart will initiate the same process.

for itunes can you ajust the length of a song and make it shorter? and how?

yes! it's a very easy trick that apple doesn't have on their website!

I was pleased as punch when I figured this out. okay. highlight the song you want to shorten in blue when in your library. right click if on a PC or ctrl click on a mac onto the song you've just highlighted and pick "get info", then go to the options tab and adjust the start and/or stop time. click OK or hit enter.

the iTunes help will have you stop there, but there's a way to make it permanent. if you highlight that song again and select "advanced" in the main window, you'll see "convert song to [some song file, mine is AAC]." if you convert the song to a different file the song will stay that short. so if you've got a song with some commentary before it (a radio or live recording) you can permanently cut it out.

yay!

Just wondering if a job is 16 years old and you will be 15 in a month will that be an exception?

your best bet is to wait a month or just look for jobs this month. if you've already found a possible job you can try to interview for it telling them upfront about your age situation.

17/f. My mom is vehemently against my going to college in the fall of this year, she wants me to wait a year. I applied to various schools without her knowledge or consent because I'm not willing to wait a year before going. I sent off my enrollment deposit to the school I'm going to and I've been working with my principal and my Gifted and Talented coordinator, trying to get my mom in to a meeting to discuss the prospects of me going in fall. Well, she's refused to go to the meeting, thinks I'm still waiting a year. I have to send in the tuition and housing deposit and forms to my school, and they have to be signed by a parent since I'm under 18, but I called the school and explained my situation and they agreed that I could sign it myself. So now where I'm at is, I could just leave in fall, go off to my college, and my mom wouldn't have to know until shortly before I do it. I'll only be 17 1/2 by August and I made sure that if she called the police or social services they wouldn't be able to take me back...but now I'm kind of stuck. I have people that are willing to help me move up there and I have a good-paying summer job so I'm set financially, but I don't want to cause a family rift. I'm sick of my mom controlling me, but as much as I want to rub this in her face because of the way she's treated me over the years, I don't know if I can. Do you think I should?
Thanks

you're doing the greatest thing possible right now. have you talked to other relatives, yet, to see if you can stay with them for breaks and things if your mother won't let you? have you attempted to become legally emancipated from your mother to avoid legal issues? if so, I see absolutely nothing wrong in leaving this fall.

I commend you.

Im a sophmore in highschool and im behind 20 credits. My counsler says that there is a 15% chance that i won't be able to walk with graduating class..

Well here's the thing, I was just homeschooled (for 1 semester and thats how i got f**ked up with my credits) and i came back to school for the 2nd semester.

So my question is should i (or would i be allowed to) get homeschooled again for 1 semester next year but instead of effing around actually do my work and catch up majorrly on my credits??

or if any one else has ideas they'd be greatly appreciated.

sorry its long, i rate high.

homeschool doesn't sound like your best chance at graduation. since you've already slacked off a semester (you say), becoming homeschooled again may not be great towards solving your problems. summer school, community college are probably your best bets. if all else fails, 5 years of high school could be the best for you.

i have an iMAC. i also have iPhoto and thats where i keep all my pictures. i used to have this brightness thing where i could drag this button and it would change it to darker or lighter. one day it just went away! how can i get it back

if when you double-click a picture it opens in a new window, then you should open a picture. go to window, customize toolbar, and then drag back the items you want into the window.

if you don't open a new window when you double-click on a picture, then go to iPhoto - preferences - general tab - Double click photo: and check the box marked "opens in a new window." then just follow the directions I've already given.

ok i keep getting these emails from Chase saying my chase bank account has been violated...the only problem is I dont have a chase bank account. Im not even old enough to have a bank account! IM 13! I suspect phishing becuase I got like 6 emails from them at the same time once saying someone tried to acsess my account, and then the first one I got from them saying my account has been violated, they spelled "been" wrong. I have yahoo, and i flagged all the emails I got. What else can I do? I have gotten a phishing email before, from someone claiming to be from eBay. ♥♥&heart;s

very good work not falling into their traps. the easiest way to fix your phishing problems is to get invited to gmail. if you don't have a friend that uses it, you can send me a question with your email address in it and I'll get to sending you an invite. gmail has an excellent blocker for phishing and other spam. I highly recommend it.

To all people who have read the book "A Separate Peace" or watched the movie:

Anyone else think Gene wanted to be "more" than Finny's friend? or they were actually "more" than friends? if you catch my drift.

though neither Gene nor Finny appears to be homosexual, the book has definite homosexual undertones. get a good critical analysis dealing with psychoanalysis and a separate peace from your local library. a psychoanalytic criticist would suggest that Gene is harboring repression of his homosexual tendencies.

if this is for an essay, pleasepleaseplease do your own homework.
