Republicans have quite a few common beliefs with Libertarians, so you're not as far off as you think. Libertarians want smaller government at all costs. They don't believe in income taxes. They think laws should exist only to protect us from dangerous people, so murder should obviously be illegal, but smoking pot shouldn't, because you're not hurting anybody but yourself. A feminist is someone who wants equal rights for women. There are feminist who are pro-choice and feminists who are pro-life. Some are Christian, some are not. Some are democrats and others are republican. I've noticed that a lot of people have these stereotypes about feminism that they usually get from "the other side", but if you ask any real feminist what we mean, you'll learn that there are a million different ways to help women... there aren't complicated strings attached, there aren't strict rules about it. If you think women are people too, you're a feminist.

They didn't have the word "feminism" floating around back when Christianity was invented, but trust me, Jesus was a feminist! When he called women "daughter" and "sister", when he stuck up for the adultress about to be stoned, when he befriended troubled women like Mary Magdalene, that was radical stuff back then. Most leaders of His time wouldn't give women a second thought. So I'd urge you to think about why you don't want to be called a feminist. Do you think women should be educated thinkers? Do you think we should have support systems to prevent abuse? Do you think women are capable of leading their communities and helping people alongside men? Then hey, you're a feminist and you don't even know it.

I'm a Christian. I'm a Republican. I think we should create programs that prevent unplanned pregnancies and make adoption programs easier so there are less abortions. And I'm a feminist!

Everyone should read feminist books. Read "Backlash" by Susan Faludi. Read "Heartbreak" by Andrea Dworkin. Read "The Feminine Mystique" and "The Second Sex" and "Dear Sisters: Dispatches from the Women's Liberation Movement". You'll be empowered (if you're a woman) or inspired (if you're not).

a year isn't really that long a time to be single, you know. I'd relax. If you've been heartbroken and don't feel ready to date, then you aren't ready to date, that's that. You don't have to guilt yourself about insecurities or issues. You don't have to get mad at yourself for being too judgemental. We spend gobs of time with people we date, you can never be too judgemental. When picking friends, give everyone a chance. Picking dates is a totally different story.

So yes, we all love sharing and intimacy and everything else that comes with good lovin', but sometimes it's healthier to be single and figure out who you really are and what you really want.

what's this "if"? I've seen more sid vicious t-shirts that I can tell you about. everyone becomes a marketing tool, even moreso after they die. what happens? corporations benefit from kids being insecure enough to feel that they need to buy their style. it's a cycle, it is.

yes. even if they don't make you feel bad now, they're really screwing with your brain. pot, for example, is one of the most harmless illegal drugs, but it's been linked to extreme paranoia and depression that can strike even casual users years down the road when they're not even suspecting it.

Waxing isn't as bad as it sounds, you can even get kits at k-mart or whatever. It's nice because then you don't have to worry about anything for like a month.

I hired someone.

It sounds like you really want a passionate relationship and he doesn't. I don't think he's resenting you, although if you're getting that vibe I suppose it's a possibility. I think he just wants a comfortable pattern, he wants to play house, he doesn't need the passion that you need. If that makes you uncomfortable, move out. Or just go with it... do you get bored a lot in your relationships? Maybe you value drama and conflict too much, and settling down is too scary for you.

Either way good luck. He doesn't sound like to terrible a guy, you just have a ways to go to understand one another.

I don't want to say no, but basically... no. I'd look out for yourself. Talk to a school councelor, they're free, about your options, because someone like this can really bring you down with them. Being molested as a child is something that basically ruins the rest of your life, your friend needs years of serious therapy and if she think's that's annoying, you won't be able to help her. Sorry this isn't very comforting. I feel bad for your friend and I'm sure you do to, but there's only so much we as normal people can do.

Both of them deplete you of nutrients, but if I had to pick one I'd say throwing up was worse because the stomach acid eats away at your teeth and esophogus until you have no way to eat. Laxatives will make you more dehydrated though, so you'll feel worse.

I've been in the advice column over five years now so I think I've pretty much heard it all... the love, the hate, the random insanity. I don't take it too seriously, so I'm not always giving the best advice, but my column is fun to read!
