Think of a situation you have been in or a feeling you have had and think of unique and original ways to describe it. This will help you stay away from clichés and, if you come up with a great line, that by itself can be inspiring.
If you can't come up with a great line, find a line by another poet and work from that. You can edit or change the line later if you want to be completely original.

Depends on what kind of poetry you're interested in writing. If you like to rhyme things, find a rhyhming dictionary and work from there. Some interesting stuff comes out of that.
If you don't like rhyme so much, write about what you feel. Whenever you have a strong emotion, think of some words to describe it and write them down.
In my creative writing class, we have done projects from tabloid headlines, pictures, colors, and even paint color names.

As the question says. :) Not to toot my own horn or anything like that, but I consider myself a good writer, as do my teachers. Essays, articles, parodies and reports get consistently excellent marks. However, I've desired to write creative stories, specifically fanfiction, for a long time, but I'm having trouble writing anything. Last time I've written fanfic was at 14; now I'm 17, and I'm afraid I've lost any spontaneity and skill I might've had. I don't believe imagination to be the problem, but I have trouble writing them out onto paper/computer, and I also have the problem of being too self-critical, so I'm constantly editing and deleting things (which doesn't do much for progress!). Does anybody have any suggestions to help? (link)

Try starting a "garbage" story, the main point of which is to get something, no matter how bad, on paper. Once you've gotten started, it might be easier to continue.
Answer a challange. I'm not quite sure where you find these, but they are sometimes hanging around on mediaminer.org.
Read other fanfics to get inspired. After reading a lot of fanfics, you may get ideas, or just get really determined to write something. You can find good fanfics on the internet and mediaminer.org and fanfiction.net.

Try limiting the time you spend on the computer. Figure out how much time you usually spend, and cut an hour, or half an hour off, and keep on taking time away until you're down to using the computer for normal amounts of time.
I phrased that sort of oddly . . . hope it makes sense.
Also, avoid going on the computer all together. Maybe try to take a day where you don't go on at all? Or maybe just once a day?
Once you've gotten rid of the addiction, you can go back to using the computer normally.

Ok...i'm 14 and i have a huge problem with my friend. you see, he likes this gurl amber but she hates him (she thinks he's a stalker), he was just calling her a slut and other things like that a week ago and last night he got online and started yelling at me for saying mean stuff about her (i never liked her!) so he got all mad at me and is telling what i think of her. including her. i talked to her today and she is kool with me (well kinda, it's the type of thing where we hate each other and we both know it). but my friend is being such a pain about the whole thing and everyone thinks it's my fault! what should i do? He really shouldn't have blown up at you.
Avoid him for now until the entire thing blows over and he figures out that Amber hates him, at which point you can begin to be friends again.
If the entire thing DOESN'T blow over, wait until he cools down and become his friend again, but avoid talking about Amber.

Humans and dogs cannot reproduce together, so no worry about that.
Why were you having sex with your family members? Why your dog? Were you forced to do it? If so, get out of that family now.
If you are pregnant from one of your family members, there is a chance that the baby will be mentally handicapped. See a doctor.

You're in sixth grade (and so around the age of 11, if I'm guessing correctly) and you're having sex with a sophomore (about 15 or so). I think he's just using you.
Get one of the home pregnancy tests. Make your boyfriend get it for you. Take the test, and tell your parents or go to Planned Parenthood if it's positive, and if it's negative then you're just lucky.

I fear the summer. I have a tendency to become depressed during this time. I sit at home, with nothing to work on accept my music, my low-budget movie, and my artwork, and that only takes up so much time. I live in a small town with nothing for entertainment, so I just sit at home thinking, and when I think to much, I'll probably get sad over my loneliness, bordem, mother's financial situation, health issues, etc, leading to depression. I hang out with friends, but not as much as I would like. Some of my friends lead more depressing lives than mine. Please don't advise me to make new ones, remember I live in a small town. My car is constantly dying, so I can't safely go outside of town. There's no job that I know of that's not depressing near here. What should I do? (link)

Maybe you're depressed because you're bored -- the same thing happens to me. Read a lot, find a new hobby like cooking, and really, really try to make an effort to talk to your friends who don't depress you.
If this doesn't work, you should see a therapist and find out if you have depression

I have a very adorable cat named Kiwamu sitting on my lap, but sometimes, when she miows, i'm not sure what she wants. I'm pretty sure it just means she's board, but I can't always let her outside. She always has plenty of food out, and she knows where her litter box is, so I'm sure it is just because she wants attention. How can I keep her entertained when I can't let her outside? (link)

Catnip is always fun. You can hang something (I use a broken Mardi Gras necklace) from your doorknob and swing it around until she starts playing with it.
On the not knowing what she means . . .
I used to have a book that was "Understanding your cat" or something along those lines. It was great, because it listed all the different kinds of meows, all the different tail positions, so you could really interpret what your cat was saying. You could probably find information along those lines on google.

Figure out why your mom doesn't want the pig in the house, then think of solutions and suggest them to your mum. (for example, if the problem is that the pig gets the furniture dirty, talk about training the pig not to get on the furniture or maybe just having the pig in one room where htere isn't any fancy sofa to dirty)
If this doesn't work, and you have a garage, set up a place for the pig to live in there.
If you don't have a garage, maybe a simple pen outside?

GEEZE that's ridiculous if you think about it. Just because everybody knows your name doens't mean you should get millions of dollars for it. DOCTORS are MUCH MORE USEFUL then some stupid snotty celebrities out there...GEEZE!

I actually like this, and I'm usually not a fan of repetition, but it works really well in this poem. This is one of those poems that sounds really good out loud. If you ever do a poetry reading, I'd advise you to use this one.
The second line ("I like to say") seems somewhat weak. If you revise the poem, I'd find something better than that.
Other than that, I love it!

i am 19. i am in a 5 year relationship and we have a one year old son together. i am going to college to be a nurse. lately there have been a lot of problems between my b/f and i. well i was going to move out, until i found out that i am pregnant. now i have cancelled my new apartment and am staying here for now. i know that we will not be together forever and i do not want to raise two kids alone. i am considering abortion and have an appointment scheduled for next friday. my b/f wants the baby and is excited. everyone in our family already knows that we are expecting again. i am too young to give up my life completely. i do not know what to do. if anyone has any advice i would really appreciate it. by the way, i am 8 weeks pregnant and due on christmas. You need to think this over. Is this the right descision for you? If the baby comes, and you and you bf are split up, is the baby going to have a happy life? From what you wrote, I would go through with the abortion, but I don't know enough details. Think it over carefully, is the one thing I can tell you.
