about

I've been away for a while due to a serious illness and subsequent health issues.

Favourite quotes of the moment:

The children of Israel wandered the desert for 40 years - Even in biblical times men wouldn't ask for directions!

Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. whatever we do to the thread, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect. - Chief Seattle.

We spend the first 12 months of a child's life teaching them to walk and talk. We spend the next 12 years telling them to sit down and shut up!

As you slide down the bannisters of life, may the splinters never be pointing the wrong way.

May you be in Heaven half an hour before the devil knows you're dead.

I've been very happily married since August 1980 to a wonderful man and have beautiful twin girls, now aged 31. Both are married to wonderful young men and one of our girls has recently made us grandparents to a beautiful, smart and feisty granddaughter. I studied geology with the Open University. I am retired from being a manager in a large UK based insurance company which I actually quite enjoyed. (How sad is that?). I love anything to do with the environment and wildlife and try to do my bit for preservation and conservation. I would like there to be a decent world for our grandchildren to inherit. I also have CFS so find life a bit of a challenge at times but always hope for better health in the future.

I have a deep interest in the spiritual and the paranormal worlds, having experienced several incidents myself, and have been involved in meditation groups and groups that (safely) explore the paranormal. There is more to this life than we would normally credit, so an open mind is always the best option. You're not so likely to get caught by surprise!

I have a deep fascination for anything to do with Ancient Egypt, as you can probably tell by my name. I have statues and paintings all around the house. As my hubby has a similar interest in Native Americans, we tend to have a lot of unusual wall decorations, like a tomahawk.

I love cars, especially vintage ones, but my all time favourite has to be the Bugatti Chiron, what a car!

I have had a lot to do with animals over the years. I have fostered many, helped to set up a wildlife charitable hospital and raised a diverse range of young animals from bats to fox cubs and different species of birds, even a baby deer! I have had great pleasure in sharing my life and home with a number of animals over the years, most of them rescues. I am currently sponsoring an Amur Tiger, they are such beautiful cats and desperately need help, there are so few of them left. I was lucky enough a couple of years ago to meet some Aye-Aye's and Livingstone's Bats, a truly wonderful experience. We now have three cats, Oliver and Mollie, a brother and sister, he's a ginger and she's a tortoiseshell and a black and white called Daisy. She arrived in a taxi and was left on our doorstep in a cat carrier with the message that 'they knew we loved cats and would be good to her'. She has settled down well and gets on wonderfully with the other two.

If you have a pet that is showing ANY signs of illness or distress, please, please, please take it to a vet! Even if finance is an issue, work that out later. It is cruel to leave an animal suffering for any reason. Most animals do not show signs of illness until they have been ill for some time, basic instinct tells them it is a display of vulnerability, and certain death in the wild. Their instincts have not caught up with domesticity.

I do feel that we should all treat others as we would wish to be treated. Bad karma comes back to haunt us.

Hi, I am david and i am from india, aged 25 years, i have a huge pain my butt from last 2 months, whenever i sit in my desk i feel a lot of pain in my butt cheeks and side of it,i feel like doing suicide, please help with this pain, i am very depressed.

You really do need to see a doctor, no one here is going to be able to tell you what the problem is as you need to be examined by a professional.

I would suggest you make an appointment as soon as you can, as the longer you put it off, the longer you will be in pain. There is also the possibility that you could compromise a swift recovery.

What are some good jazz songs that would be fun to sing too? I have this Audition and I wanted to sing a fun upbeat jazz song for it. Any Ideas?

How about 'All that Jazz' from Chicago? I've included a web site with the words.

Good luck with the audition.

I'm putting together this little notebook with meaningful quotes and sayings. I just wanted to hear what everyone's favorite quotes were. It could be about anything; love, life, death, happiness, sadness, work, friendship, etc. The quotes may or may not be from a movie.

If you have heard some kind of quote that really inspired you in some way, please share. I promise to rate! Thanks!

I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.

how do you know who is the person asking the question on advicenators im j/w because i've never known this.

Only level 2 mods and upwards have access to this information, and they don't share it.

If you want more information about the asker, a paid account will give you the age and sex of the person, and also let you see what other questions they have asked.

This question is for the girls out there... My stepmom says that bras with underwires are really bad for you. Does anyone know why?

Underwires can be bad for you if the bra does not fit properly and the wires are pressing into the breast flesh. Over time this can cause health problems.

You should go and get yourself measured and fitted correctly so that you are sure you are wearing the correct size bra. The wires should be against your ribs at the sides and fitting comfortably under the breast if you are wearing the right size. The bra should also be a smooth fit from material to skin, with no bulge at the top.

all of a sudden my kitten doesnt want to eat. like she doesnt want to eat her food at all. what should i do?. how can i make her est? and what are cats favorite foods that they cant resist.

Is she showing any other symptoms of ill health? Is she listless, vomiting, has diarrhoea or feels hot? Is she still drinking?

If you suspect she may be ill rather than being picky about her food, she needs to see a vet as soon as you can get her there. The younger and elderly animals are less able at fighting off illnesses.

It would probably be better to see a vet first to rule out illnesses, then if she's fine, tackle the food issue.

If she is just being fussy, you're going to have to try several different foods and flavours until you find one she's happy with. However, always try the good quality foods like Science Plan or James Wellbeloved first.

My stomach has been feeling really weird lately. Everyday it's either hurting or is feeling really uneasy. I ahven't been hungry all that much lately either. When I use the restroom I have diarrhea (disgusting, I know). My hands begin to shake, I feel drained of all energy, especially when I yawn. And I'm not starting my period for another week, yet I woke up with a couple of spots on my underwear, and the same when I use the restroom. It's not alot of blood, just minimal. It's looks light on the tissue, like a light brown? Any idea what could be wrong with me?

You need to see a doctor and have a proper diagnosis and treatment.

No one here is going to be able to tell you what the problem is, as it could be many things. Go to the doctor as soon as you can, if nothing else, do it for your own peace of mind.

my hamster chews on the metal bars a lot and its irritating. what can i do to get her to stop?

A hamster is a rodent and their teeth never stop growing, so they need to gnaw on hard things to wear their teeth down. She needs things to chew in her cage so that she can do this. Apple wood is good, however if you get this from a tree yourself, you would need to ensure there are no parasites or chemicals in the wood. Alternatively, you can get everything she needs from a pet shop.

She will also need a lot of things to play with, as hamsters tend to be quite active. If you can get hamster tubing from the pet shop, she will spend hours running around it and storing her food in parts of it. You could keep changing the shape of the tubing which will make it more interesting for her and fun for you to watch.

Another thing you can do to keep her occupied is to hide her food in different areas of her cage so that she has to sniff it out. This is what she would have to do in the wild, so it would be instinctive for her to do this.

You do need to do everything you can to stop her gnawing the metal bars as she could damage her teeth, pulling them out of alignment. Hopefully, all of this should help to occupy her enough so that she forgets the bars.

I don't know what's wrong with me lately, but I just don't feel good at all. I have really bad anxiety, but i'm not sure if that's it.

Two fridays ago i threw up, had panic attacks, and was feeling better by monday. On Monday, my symptoms changed, and I felt light headed and tired all the time. Probably because I had lost my appetite, which caused me to eat even less. That feeling continued all week until yesterday afternoon. I came home, and had eaten a full meal and felt a lot better.

But yesterday afternoon I went to a fair in my town where I ate ice cream and a soft pretzel, and went on rides that spun around a lot. Needless to say, not the best idea. I felt really queasy when I got home, so I went straight to bed.

When i woke up this morning around 9:00, i had diarrhea, and then went back to sleep until my brother woke me up at two in the afternoon. When i woke up i felt this knot in my throat, and I was really dizzy.

That feeling had continued and I really, really hate it.
What can I do to feel better?
Is this all in my head, or is there something really wrong with me?

It sounds as though you are feeling under stress at the moment and possibly have picked up an infection on top of that. When we are feeling stressed it makes us more vulnerable to bugs unfortunately, which just makes things worse.

Try a bland diet for a few days, drink lots of water and rest as much as possible. Try to avoid getting stressed, which is hard I know.

If you're not better by the end of the week, you will probably need to see a doctor as there is always a chance there is something else going on.

why has the australian flag have the british union jack on it? :S

Australia is one of the 54 British Commonwealth countries, some of which display the UK flag, and some that don't. For example, Canada is one of the ones that do not display the Union flag. New Zealand is another that does and so do the Fiji Islands.

I have given you a website that lists the Commonwealth countries if you are interested.

My dog has been acting really strange. Normally, she does things like this:
-sleeps on my bed, or in the living room
-plays with the toys on her bed
-barks at animals that walk by from either the front room window or the sliding glass door that looks out over the backyard [& we live on a corner]
-plays with you when you call her
-runs around outside when my dad goes out there

But lately she's been acting like this:
-not barking when she sees other animals
-laying under the computer desk when I sit here
-just basically laying around
-when I tell her to jump up on me, like I'm standing & pat my thighs, she just sits & looks at me
-when I call her up onto my bed, she just lays next to it like she's scared
-lays in the grass when we let her outside without the chain on [we have no fence]

I don't know why she's acting so bored, timid, & such. The only major difference in our lives is that my dad, who usually runs with her every couple days, got surgery & can't for a while. But I've tried taking her on walks every day or every other day to make sure she gets exercise/fresh air.

Is this just normal or is there something to be checked out?

My dog started doing this recently, so I took him to the vets. The vet said that he had hurt his back and moving around was causing a lot of pain. He then had to have medication and total bed rest, but he's recovered now.

I'm not saying this is what is wrong with your dog, just one of the possibilities. She really does need to get checked over by your vet to know for sure. She could just be pining for the loss of her usual routine, but is it really worth taking that chance with her health?

I'm taking Ballet classes this summer, anyone who takes ballet can then give me some REAL AND GOOD tips and websites.

Help me (tips and websites) to learn how to do a proper pirouette and fouette and how to get really at good spotting turns without getting dizzy. I use to do Ballet from like 6-9 but I stopped because I couldn't afford it anymore and I lost all my ability.

I did ballet for many years and also took part in stage shows, although now I haven't danced in a long time. However, I still remember some of the tricks.

Before you start your turn, you need to find a point to fix your sight on, as you start to turn, keep your eyes on that point for as long as possible, then whip your head around and fix on it again. This should stop you getting dizzy and help to stay on the spot. Other than that, it's down to practice, practice, practice.

I've included a website that gives an animated picture plus graphs to give you more of an idea.

Before i ask, i'd just like to say i never use this word and would never do because its racist, i'm just not sure why.
I'll have to write it in here so please dont take offence because its just for my question.

I'm just wondering, If you call the British "Brits" thats fine, no ones offended and they say it all the time on tv, but if you call people from Pakistan "Paki" it's really offencive and rasist. I dont understand why shortenening Paskistani is racist but shortening other Nationalities isn't.

Us 'Brits' tend to not use this name to describe ourselves, it's usually used by people from other countries. It's the shortened version of Briton, inhabitant of Britain. No offence taken, just explaining the derivation.

'Paki' used to just be a shortened version of Pakistani, inhabitant of Pakistan. However, during the 1960's when racism was, unfortunately, rife in this country with the previously unseen levels of immigrants, it became a derogatory term for all races from an Asian background. It would also be used for Middle Eastern races and just about any immigrants. It was from an unenlightened era of our history, and hopefully, will never be repeated.

I guess some nationalities may take offence if the slang name for them has previously been connected to racist abuse.

ok so i got my kiten from school a teacher gave her to me about 2 weeks ago. the teacher gave her to me in a cage. my mom doesnt want the cat in the house she says the only way i can keep it is if i let the cat in the room all the time because we have birds and the birds are scared. i told my mom i can keep the cage but i cant my teacher said to return it and it has been 2 weeeks already and i ahev to return it today. i asled everyone if they had a cage and they said no. i dont have money for a new one and my mom wont let me keep the cat without a cage. my parents dont want to give 30-100 dollors for a cage. and i wont eb able to keep it without a cage. also,i wnat to keep my cat in m room when i go to school, out of the cage but imscared like if she does doo doo then she will climb up my bed with doodoo and she will mess up my sheets. what should i do about my 2 problems? thanks!

There is only one thing you can do, you have to give the kitten back to the teacher and explain the situation. You can't keep her shut up all her life, it would not be kind to her. She needs to have her freedom and this is something you're unable to offer her in your home.

Cats are natural predators of birds so it's understandable they are scared if they see her. Maybe in a few years the situation will be different and you will be able to have a cat. But for now, you need to do the right thing for your kitten, however hard it's going to be.

Okay, so I am tired of using clear nail polish over and over again to make my nails look shiny so I'm thinking of just using a nail buffer cuz according to one of my friends it makes your nails shiny. My question is, is it safe to use a nail buffer? Does it make your nails brittle or does it make it "thin"?

Nail buffers are fine to use occasionally and if you're careful with the ridge remover. If your nails aren't smooth and you over use this, you could remove enough nail to expose the nail bed. This will be painful and open your fingers to infections. Over-buffing can also thin the nails, causing the same problems.

whats the legal age for sex in florida? (U.S)
thanx

Heterosexual - m/f - 18

m/m and f/f is currently sited as illegal.

I have included a web site that gives all the legal ages for North America.

i didnt ask that question, but i saw that it said that you included a website, and i thought i would let you know that the site is not there. you may have forgot to put it there.

cheers!

-woahtherebabe

I certainly did forget to add it. I realised this not long after posting the reply. Put it down to a senior moment. :)

Not sure how it doesn't answer the question though? The legal age for sex between heterosexuals in Florida is 18, that's male to female - m/f. Everything else is currently sited as illegal, e.g. male to male (m/m) and female to female (f/f).
