OK, i just got my first period today. Unfortunately, my mom is on vacation so I have no clue what to do. Am I supposed to wear a pad/tampon while I sleep? How often should i change them? THank you so much for your help! (link)
i just got my period this year, an fortuanately, mum was home. phew! anyhoo, i don't wanna even try tampons, i'm sticking with the pads, but it depends what your comfortable with. i agree with everyone else, go for the pads at night, they tend to absorb more. also, go for the biggest size possible at the beginning, so you can work out how heavy the flow is - it's better to be safe than sorry. at school, if you don't have a spare pad or whatever, toilet paper or tissues will last you til you get home. um, also, i tend to put used pads in a bag or wrap them in loo paper before binning them. never flush them down the toilet!! it gets embarrassing explaining to the plumber... good luck!!

What's the appropriate response when someone e-mails you a question that's addressed in your site's Frequently Asked Questions page? See, I've got this forum up at spacefem.com and people just don't seem to understand the benifits that come from clicking that "FAQ" link, they still bug us all the time. Should we shame them endlessly? Politely direct them to the FAQ page? Just answer their question and accept the fact that people on the internet can't seem to learn to read? (link)
send them a link to your home page, saying that they can find the faq page there. that way, you can use one of those auto-response email things, and you don't have to write the answer over and over AND if you have a counter, it means you get more hits too!! good luck!!

I know this person who has really annoying habits on the internet. There are no periods, so it takes forever to try to understand her, and she uses numbers in the middle of words(c u l8er, g2g, etc) . It wouldn't really bother me too much except she goes on forever, and she can't spell. She also capitalizes random words and uses ... or ! after every other word. What can I do to tell her that is annoying me? She is one of my closest friends, but it is driving me crazy! (link)
*laughs* i went trhough a faze like that! i probably still am annoying, but hey - you don't get everything! anyhoo, i would just keep asking what she's saying - she'll get the message eventually. good luck!!

i need to think of some good cheap ways to stay warm on a camping trip this weekend. it's gonna be really freaking cold, and I don't want to buy and expensive -80 degree sleeping bag because i don't go camping all that often, but i'm afraid i'm going to freeze to death. what should i bring to keep me really warm? i know about wool but are there other really good fabrics to be sure to wear? (link)
keep your head warm and covered (that's where most of the body's heat escapes) and take LOTS OF SOCKS!! also, take as many jumpers as you can - it's really not pleasant wearing wet clothes. when i went camping, i didn't buy anything new or fancy - i just took extras!! (two sleeping bags work way better than 1!!) good luck!!

do pop tarts qualify more as a "breakfast" or "junk food"? i'm aiming for breakfast here, don't let me down. (link)
i would say either... i had them for brekkie this morning, and mum said that was fine, but i had too have something healthy, too. e.g. fruit or toast. but i suppose, foods are what you make them - sometimes i have warm chocolate muffins with ice-cream at breakfast time - but i don't call that dessert, i call it breakfast!!

My cat, whom I owned for a happy 11 months, ran away. His name was Caspian and he was completely grey, not to mention the most sweet tempered and cutest cat I've even known. My mother let him out one day (even though we both decided before we got him that he would be an INDOOR cat AT ALL TIMES) and he never came back. This, of course, depressed me greatly and he still hasn't come back after two weeks. Slowly, I've let my hope die. How do I deal? (link)
things like that happen - but if you really loved caspian, it's hard, coz it's like you don't want to get over it, because then you'll feel guilty about not caring. keep hoping, you never know... good luck!!

I have a friend who's about to be initiated into Wicca. I know what Wicca's about, and that's mainly why I've been hoping he wouldn't. He's getting initiated on Saturday, and I'm really worried. Is there anything I can do to talk him out of it in five days?!? (link)
i've said this to so many people: don't change for anyone. if it was your friend asking for advice on this matter, that's what i'd say to him. nobody should have to change anything about themsleves just because someone doesn't like it. that's how they are, and that's how they should stay. people can grow into a more mature person or whatever, but they're not gonna change overnight. don't expect them to... good luck...

so i like this guy. teh only problm is that he is an atheist and i am a christian. but we talk all the time n he makes me laugh. i cant explain it we just click. will the whole religion thing be a bg deal? (link)
if you're going to wait for a guy who has everything in common with you, you're going to be waiting a long time!! if you like the guy, go for it!! besides, what's a relationship (of any kind) without a bit of conflict now and then?! btw, i think it's kewlie that you are friends first!! good luck!!
p.s. don't change for nobody!!

ok, first i need to tell u this whole story

last year i met him, and we were distant friends, i guess if thats what u wanna call it, now, this year, we are like, brother sister close. except, i dont want to be. i want to be more. i told him this....but on the same day that 3 other girls told him about their love for him too!. He told me that he doesn't want to choose between all of us because he knows that somebody will get hurt. Also, he had liked this same girl for a while. even if he didnt like her, i would still be callin her a biotch. i dont see why he likes her, she is a serious bitch and rude to everybody...you have no clue. she is goin out with somebody right now tho.anyways. i want him to be happy. thats why im not going to try to make him ask me out, because i want him to be happy. it hurts to see him everyday and be so close to him, when i know it cant be anything more. i know that he doesnt love me in that way. i need to get over this, but i dont know how.

help!?!? (link)
just stay his friend. be there for him, but don't try to change his mind. it's better to be friends first, anyway, and he might change his mind.
oh yeah - DON'T avoid him to get your mind off him - this often makes you think about him more. spend heaps of time with him, and either you'll realise you just want to be friends, or he'll change his mind and decide he loves you. good luck!!

I'm dating a guy who's nice, but I'm just not feeling a "spark" or anything. We're comfortable together, that's all. Like really good friends. Is that enough for a lasting relationship? I'm just not the "fall head over heals" type. (link)
i think yes, it is enough for a lasting relationship - just not the kind you're in at the moment. i think it sounds like you could both be really great friends, but if there's nothing to keep you in the dating-relationship, there's nothing to say it wil last. i'm not saying you should break up with him right away, just give it time and talk to him about it... good luck!!

Lately I've become very emotional about stupid stuff (crying, screaming, etc) my mom has been calling me a bitch and my dad just doesn't like to be around me, which I can understand - I don't want to be around myself either. I dislike being around my parents - they ask stupid stuff, and just won't leave me alone. My doctor also thinks I have depression. What can I do to make myself a better person to be around? lately I've just been biting people's heads off - and I honestly don't mean to. HELP!!!! (link)
ack... i think i'm going through that too... i had the first big disagreement with my parents the other day - and it was over the silliest thng - what happened in a movie. lately, everyone's been annoying me, and i swear, if my brother does one more thing...! good luck, though. as for some advice - talk. if no-one will listen, talk to your self. if you feel silly or don't want anyone to hear, turn up the stereo REAL LOUD and talk to that. OR talk to your pets. trust me, it helps.

What's a good way to meet new people? (link)
be friendly - show a bit of yur 'weird side' (hey, everyone's got one!! lol), but not TOO much. that way, people remember you, but not as a total freak. meet your friend's friends. i met heaps of people this way. lok at my profile - the story there tells about time i met HEAPS of people... good luck!!

Ok, I play guitar..I have a guitar (always comes in handy), an amp and an fx pad. Answer this! What should I ask for when Christmas comes round? (link)
i would say sheet music... if you can't read it, get one of those lesson books - you can teach yourself! seriously though, they work, and they have songs too!! hope this helps...

I don't know how to clean. Or budget but that's not the point. my room has gotten really dirty and I want to clean it so I can use it to practice for auditions, do homework, etc and not have to throw all my junk off my bed every night.
Does anyone have some cleaning tips, or something? Or can tell me how to clean? (link)
ack!! i always have that problem, but recently, i had one of my major-once-every-three-years-clean-ups... lol. it was the holidays, so i had
~ HEAPS OF TIME
(i'm just caps-locking the stuff that is essential for cleaning rooms lol). also, an
~ INCENTIVE
is good. my parents usually buy me something if i clean my room really well. something to remember:
~ IF CHRISTMAS OR BIRTHDAY IS COMING UP, YOU WANT ROOM FOR PREZZIES!!
another thing -
~ DON'T TRY TO CLEAN IT ALL AT ONCE!!
if you aim to finich one area each day, or whatever, you're more likely to get it done, and it won't seem like such a big job.
~ CLEAN THE EASY AREAS THAT LOOK MESSIER THAN THEY ARE FIRST!!
that way, it looks like you've done a lot more, and the rest of the mess won't be so intimidating!!
~ DO IT PROPERLY!!
(i.e. scrub the desk, vacuum, etc) this lets you see how neat and tidy your room really is and makes you want to try and keep it that way. also, it's nice to feel like you're living somewhere clean. oh, and something very important:
~ DON'T THINK "IT MAY COME IN HANDY LATER"
it won't!! and if it does, just get a new one (whatever it is). throw away EVERYTHING unless you know for a fact that you will use it, or if it has a special meaning to you, etc.
hope i thought of everything... good luck!!

This probably sounds really dumb but oh well. I have dance lessons three times a week(and this is active dance with jumping, not just walking around and moving arms or swaying on the spot) and I have two soccer practices a week and a game. I also have gym class twice a week for an hour and I try my best unlike some people. I walk 3k per day to school and back and according to my friend's mom 'eat like a bird' which I don't think I do. I'm 13 and weigh 110 pounds. I have friends that are my height and weigh about 90 pounds. Their excercise is gym class. That's it. I know for a fact they don't diet and aren't anorexic or bulimic. They eat more than me.

I also know a girl in my dance class who does everything I do plus lacrosse and an extra conditioning practice with her team for soccer. She eats about the same amount as me but is obese. How the hell does that work? I don't really care but I'm just curious! (link)
i would say it's either:
metabolism - this is how fast your body uses your food. if it's slow, then it just gets turned into fat quicker, and vice versa. where i live (western australia) there's places you can go and they'l tell you why you the size you are, etc. try looking up 'metabolism' on the internet or asking at alibrary or something. you might be able to find more that way.
OR
diet - it may not have anything to do with HOW MUCH you eat, but WHAT you eat, and WHEN. if you eat a healthy, balaced diet, your weight won't go up so much (usually). also, if you have carbohydrates (bread, pasta, sugar, etc.) at night before you sleep, your body turns it into fat, because you're not using it to do anything.
OR
muscles - your weight may not be fat, it might be muscles. i don't know how to check this, but hey, that might be your answer! hope i've been a bit of help... good luck!!

I'm not a full-on vegetarian, but I try not to eat a whole lot of meat. Frankly I just don't think it's healthy, and I don't like depending on it. The problem is that everyone around me... my family, my boyfriend, etc. is of the opinion that unless you're poor or sick, you must consume meat at every meal or it's just not a meal. When I offer to cook black bean casserole or vegi pizzas, they're just like, "that's great... and what else?"

How do I get them out of this mindset that vegetables aren't "real food"? (link)
just keep believing it yourself, and if they don't believe it themselves, that's their problem. my family aren't vegetarians, but my parents used to go camping, and one night, they forgot to let the meat thaw out for their casserole. they ended up inventing this new "vegetarian hotpot" ((i'll try find the recipe for you))... it's sooooo yum... and it's so hearty that it fills you up like meals with meat do. lots of vegetarian dishes are ike that, and if you add gravy or something, it almost tastes meaty too. just keep feeding it to them, and if they don't like it, tough bananas. don't change for them!! good luck!!

my sister and I went to the swimming pool and when we got back she was like 'I WAN In tHE SHOWER FIRST!!!" so I let her take a shower first, and while she was in there I didn't know what to do then I remembered I hadn't played the piano for a while. so I sat down and played the piano. but I was still wet and had my swimsuit on. so I get up and on the piano bench, which is wood, there's this raised warped part where it's kinda lighter color and it's EXACTLY the shape of my BUTT and you can see where my thighs were and everything! I tried to dry it but it won't go away. I'm really freaking out because my mom will be home in a few hours and I don't know what to do! (link)
you can either lie, and not draw attention to it and hop she won't notice (i wouldn't advise this)
OR
you could just tell her. my mum usually gets even worse angry if she finds out i've lied, so just say you'll help save for a new seat or something... good luck!! (hope i'm not too late with the advice lol)

I'm on my period and have really awful cramps. What's the best drug to take? Aspirin? Tylenol? I'm tempted to just take them all. (link)
if you don't want to use drugs, i've heard that herbal teas are good (not normal tea or coffee) and i've found that applying heat helps (e.g. hot water bottle, warm bath, etc.) swimming slow laps in a heated pool works, too. try different things, there should be something that works for you!! good luck!!

Everybody in my school has already had like 10 boy/girl friends... I've had none. Thats right... zip, zero, zilch! They all say how great it is to be hooked up, and they always have someone to dance with at activity nite. I have nobody!

Sincerely,
BoyCrazy (link)
if everyone else has had "like 10 boy/girl friends", then doesn't that mean that they've broken up with like 10 people? and how, may i ask, is that a good thing?
i've never had a boyfriend myself, but a few crushes. none of it ever got very serious, i just got good friends out of it.
now, since my friends and i have started high school, a few of them have gone 'boy-crazy', and there's been this huge fight. there's been a lot of b***hing, and it aint nice. it seems to me that going out with people when there's nothing really in it just makes life difficult. i have nothing against having a boyfriend, but it's better to have boy friends, not boyfriends if it's just so you can be like "everyone else". good luck!!

I want to have a party and I want to serve cheese, but I don't think plain old cheddar is very classy or interesting. What are some other good cheeses I can serve just cut up as cubes, that people might not have tried before but will still like? (link)
i would go for a hard cheese, as i find soft gooey cheses turn people off. a lot of people prefer sharp cheeses to the milder ones, but don't have stinky cheese 'cause people don't want smelly breath lol. also, i wouldn't advise blue cheese, because most people will not like the idea of trying mouldy-looking cheese. smoked cheese is yummy (try and get the dutch stuff)... hope that gives you some ideas!
