Question Posted Wednesday January 28 2015, 5:33 pm
I got glasses today and I'm kinda scared to wear them. Not because of how I look (because I look fabulous) but because normally I see pretty well. I can see when we take note (even if I sit kinda far in the back. But something's that are REALLY small I can't see. In my opinion I don't think glasses are super necessary. And I don't want people to be like "you don't need glasses" "your faking it" "you see better than I do" because it's honestly not even to the point where I can't see what's in front of me like most of my friends. What should I do?

The first day you wear them will be the longest day of your life wearing glasses, but it won't be as bad as your imagining. Nobody will say "you don't need glasses" or "your faking it" they will say something like: "wow when did you get glasses" or I didn't know you wear glasses" or they will just compliment you on how they look and that's about it. If someone says "you see better that I do" when referring to your glasses then give them your eye doctors phone # and tell them they need to go get their eyes examined because you did and you found out you need glasses! The second day will be a lot easier than the first day and by the third day nobody will care that you are wearing glasses.
You may think that you see pretty well, but once you start wearing glasses you will find that you are seeing things that you don't see without them and they will make your life a lot easier. So just wear your glasses it will be ok. [ vigopro's advice column | Ask vigopro A Question ]
Grandfather answered Thursday January 29 2015, 7:57 pm: You should only wear glasses when they're needed. For example, when you're driving or engaged in any other activity that requires keenness of perception.
Other people's opinions about whether or not you need glasses is just that - their opinion and when they say something to you about it, just smile and change the subject. [ Grandfather's advice column | Ask Grandfather A Question ]

All you have to do is say "I'm going to wear my glasses when I feel I need to wear them. They are my fucking eyes people, I am the only one who knows what I can or can't see."
Most people aren't going to care. Some people will be assholes. The best way to shut it down is to just tell thank them for utterly uninformed opinion on your eyes, and make your own damn decisions.
Don't let it get to you, insist they respect the fact that you are the authority on the subject of whether or not you put on your glasses [ Razhie's advice column | Ask Razhie A Question ]
Tigz285 answered Thursday January 29 2015, 10:56 am: People need glasses for all sorts of reasons, I need to wear glasses because Im short sighted and I have astigmatism which causes blurred or distorted vision. If you have glasses then its for a reason which in your case is because you cant see something thats really small. You may feel like you dont need them because you say that you can normally see pretty well but if you are given them because of a problem with your vision then you do need them. You may not feel like its necessary but it might be essential for you because of your sight - even if its a small problem.
I know someone who only needs glasses when she is reading of a board or something far away because she cant see it properly, other than that her vision is ok, she doesnt need to wear glasses apart from that but she still needs them for that.
Maybe you could talk to your optician about it, they are always happy to help with inquires about your eyes - thats what they are there for. Ultimately they are the experts in eye care so you should talk to them and dont worry about what other people are going to say, they are not experts on vision and especially YOUR vision- if you need them then you need them and ignore people who make assumptions. Ocalaphernella answered Thursday January 29 2015, 12:08 am: If you went to an eye doctor, and they proscribed you glasses, then you have every right to wear them, and clearly there's a reason to. If you did not, then I suggest you do so and see if it is needed. Your friends have no idea what your sight is like, because they don't have your particular eyes, so don't pay attention to them if they make stupid comments like such.
Hope this helps~ [ Ocalaphernella's advice column | Ask Ocalaphernella A Question ]
