Marigret74 answered Tuesday June 12 2012, 4:37 am: Yes! You should babysit! When I was your age, I took a babysitting course Through our local hospital (not needed but helps a lot) and offering to watch kids in my neighborhood, family friends', ect. I even put up a local add and got my name on a list through the hospital. I had I consistent job that I worked 3x a week but would get calls from others in town as well. Usually, I would get paid around 7 or 8 dollars an hour but idk what it is like now. Instant money in your pocket and is completely legal. Hope that helps. adviceman49 answered Wednesday June 6 2012, 12:08 pm: We see this question every summer. Unfortunatly you are too young to get a real job. Federal and State child labor laws prohibit children under the age of 16 from working. Then the jobs they can do and the hours they can work along with the number of hours they can work a week are strictly limited.
While this may sound unfair to you. These laws came to be to end the sweats shops of the late 1800 and early 1900's where young children worked 12 to 16 hours a day 6 and 7 days a week for very little money. Today we want you to get your education which is provuded free to you. While clothing and money to buy it with may be important to you today; your education will be more important when you must earn a living to support youself and your family.
mannequin24 answered Wednesday June 6 2012, 2:27 am: Due to child labor laws, you can't get an actual job until you are at least 14. Even then, you would have to check with the exact law for wherever you live. Also, since the laws for teens working are pretty strict, most businesses would probably hire somebody who is older. On the other hand, there are some other things you could do. The most popular "job" for teens is babysitting. You can offer to babysit for your neighbors, family, friends, or you could even put out an ad (keep in mind that this would cost $). You could also do some odd jobs around your area. Just ask around and see what you can find. Good luck :) [ mannequin24's advice column | Ask mannequin24 A Question ]
