I'm Really Pale... I don't tan, I burn. How can I get a tan when I am so pale?

Question Posted Thursday March 1 2012, 9:47 pm

I don't tan, all I do is burn. I NEVER tan because my body just doesn't do it lol. So I was wondering if there was something I could do to help it besides spray tan or burn. Are there like herbs or something that could help? Also do guys like pale girls? Becuase ir seems like every guy I know doesn't like it...Thanks! :D

I am fair skinned and tend to burn. It takes me a while to colour. The best thing I discovered is Elemis tan accelerator. You apply it every day and it brings the melanin thats in your skin to the surface, giving a bit more colour, but once in the sun you go golden not red, plus it prevents prickly heat too.

I have always been white and had the same problem, however most guys I have known, even friends have told me NEVER to use fake tan and that's fine with me as I have seen it go very wrong.

In some stores there is body lotion with gradual tanning lotion in it that can take weeks to show, perhaps try that? I think Johnsons do it.

I also have pale skin and I used to think all that would ever happen was a) stay white or b) burn. But that was because the sun protection factor I was using was either way too low or way too high. I currently use SPF20 and that seems to be about right for my skin, I get a bit of colour and I don't burn.

You can also buy tan tablets from health shops (google "tan tablets"). I haven't tried them, but they may help you.

Or you could use a body lotion with a tint in it, like Johnson's Holiday Skin which will give you some colour without being too obvious.

Be careful with your skin in the sun. Us pale types are more prone to skin cancer than the rest and nothing will age you more than prolonged sun exposure. Don't put aesthetics over health. A guy who can't see beyond your tan is not a guy worth dating anyway.

This probably isn't relevant to your question at all, but its worth a try maybe...
I've always burned when out in the sun, even when I was in the shade but sitting close to a caravan which was warm from the sun, I burnt!
Recwently, I've been applying body lotion or aqueous cream (usually quite cheap and available from most good pharmacies) daily after my shower to arms and legs, also brushing the skin on my legs to improve circulation.
I don't know whch of those actions has had the desired effect but the result is, I don't burn so quickly as I used to.
Hope this helps, best wishes.

Just as Zane said, Put on sunscreen and go walk in the sun. But make sure not to lay in the sun for to long as it could cause harm to your skin. If this doesn't work for you though, remember that all skin color whether your pale, dark, light, tan is you and special and we all come in different shades

I don't know much about tanning but I heard if you put sun screen on before you lay out in the sun it can help prevent burning up and will tan instead.
