Is the age difference bad even if we're not having sex?
Question Posted Wednesday November 30 2011, 2:30 am
So there's this guy that is a good friend and we're really close. Some people have told me that the age difference wasn't good. We kinda had a thing going on for awhile. Just making out and touching kind of stuff. I'm not having sex. Anyways, I'm 17 and he's 19. In March he'll be 20. So it's like a 2 1/2 year difference. We're waiting till I'm out of high school to get more serious but I was wondering if the age difference is bad even if we're not having sex.

If you answer 'yes' to both questions than who cares what anyone else thinks. If there are any problems in the relationship or about the relationship you and your good friend will handle it. No one else should get involved. [ AdviceMistress's advice column | Ask AdviceMistress A Question ]

The thing that concerns me, though, is that I don't think people your age ought to be getting tied down. Date around, explore life and just give yourself time to grow up. If you don't have that exploratory phase you will always regret it. So keep an open mind. [ VoiceofReason's advice column | Ask VoiceofReason A Question ]
LoveForever answered Wednesday November 30 2011, 3:27 pm: Hello im 19/f and my boyfriend has just turned 18 so i understand what you mean by age differnce but for me it is the other way around. I personaly dont thing age matters if you care about eachother and you both agree on when to have sex i dont see it in any way bad, aslong as you dont feel forced or pushed in to doing something i dont think ther is anything to wory about.Boys can be realy pushy sometimes and times before ive gave into sex just to please my partner. I would suggest you make sure its a 100 % joint dissision when you finally do sleep together becase being cumfartable and relaxed is the main thing.Hope i helped & i appoligise for the bad spelling LFxx [ LoveForever's advice column | Ask LoveForever A Question ]
Xenolan answered Wednesday November 30 2011, 12:15 pm: It's a larger age difference than usual for a high-school relationship (I'm assuming you're still in high school even though he isn't), but it's certainly not a terrible thing. If it works for you, then go for it. And if you stay together for the long term, the difference will mean less and less over time; by the time you're thirtysomething, it'll be unnoticeable.
