Used a condom AND birth control pills but now I'm pregnant?!

Question Posted Monday August 30 2010, 6:33 pm

I've been dating My boyfriend for awhile. We always use condoms when We have sex. Always. I started on birth control pills about like maybe 6 or 7 months ago now. I always take them on time no matter what. I'm not stupid. My boyfriend and I had sex last month like usual. We used a condom every time and everything. Neither of Us thought any of the condoms We had used broke or busted or tore or whatever you call it. We had no cause to think I could get pregnant.

My period was late. I took a pregnancy test and it said + positive for pregnancy. I didn't have sex with anybody else. I read these things don't lie. Is this for real though? I mean, is it really possible to get pregnant when using birth control pills AND condoms? I mean WTF. Should I take another test or see a doctor?

The chances are very slim, but it's still possible to get pregnant. The condom may have broken and you might not have felt it.

Sometimes a pregnancy test can give a false positive. Blood tests are the only ways to be sure. See your doctor.

There is no 100 % way to prevent pregenacy besides abstinence bt anyways condoms can break even if you dont feel them and if you miss one day of your birth control pill it can mess up everything... bt i dont think your pregant i jus think that your period will jus come late you should def. go see a doctor and do a blood test because that will tell you the truth pregenacy tests arent always accurate either. before you see the doctor i think you should take one more pregancy test and see if you get the same result if you do i really think you should see a doctor... hope this helped =]]]] !

Home tests can give a false positive as well as a false negative. The only true test is a blood test. Go to a clinic or a doctor for a blood test.

There is always a possibility. My mother was using both when I was conceived. If you take antibiotics, if you don't absorb the pill properly, if your body just doesn't feel like it, the pill can malfunction. As for condoms, they're finicky. There can be a tiny hole, semen can squeeze out around the edges, or goodness knows what can happen without knowing. It's like layering Swiss cheese: sometimes the holes can overlap.

I would recommend doing both; take another test, and maybe even another one. If you're still getting positives, head to the doctor for a blood test.

Good luck!
