I have a major crisis.. i just got my period today and in a month i'm supposed to go to florida for volleyball nationals and i'm supposed to get my next period during that tournament :( the reason why this sucks is because
- i can't wear tampons. like i've tried at least 20 times and it just doesn't work for me. and there's no way i can get the experience now and be able to succeed wearing them in a month.
- the place we are staying at (rental home) has our own private pool and i can 90% guarantee that we will be swimming a lot.
- nobody on my team knows that i can't wear tampons, so it would be really embarrassing if i told them that i can't go swimming because i have my period.
so any advice??
btw- my mom won't let me go on the pill. i was thinking about asking my bff to get birth control pills and let me use them for a month until the tournament starts. do you think that will work? like if i started taking the pill asap, will i be able to skip my next period in a month?
also, is there any way i could make it come a week sooner? my period normally comes every 26 days, is there any way??? helppp i'm desperate. and please don't say "grow up and wear tampons" because i honestly can't use them and i won't have enough experience to use them in a month. thank you!
AngelKMC65 answered Thursday May 20 2010, 3:51 pm: Yes periods do ruin everything. I think every female has or will say that in their lifetime. Getting on to the subject. =]
Have you tried the junior pack? I tried and tried to put tampons in different kinds too. Then, I bought the Junior size, I guess it's for little kids who have their period and want to use tampons, i don't know. The junior size is much, much smaller then a normal tampon. They inserted very easily for me. Take a deep breath before putting it in then after its in, take another deep breath. =]
Now, if tampons still aren't an option. How is your period? When will you be getting it? I ask this because if your period is light, water will stop the blood temporarily but if you have a heavy period, I wouldn't suggest trying it. Also, depending on when you get you period, say your staying there for a week and you get it in the middle or near the end, again depending on your flow, if it starts out light, go swimming and you'll be fin for that day atleast.
The pill, doesn't kick in overnight. If you have a pretty regular period as it is, it's not going to mess with too much. Birth control doesn't *skip* periods. They may depending on your body but you don't know that. Birth Control is for sexually active people, irregular periods and severe acne.
(tampons)You don't have to have *experience* to use them in a month. After the first time you get it in you'll realize exactly how they work and what you were doing wrong and will be able to use it everytime.
Another thing, below I read how somebody was putting tampons down, well there are risks at using them, if your just planning on using them once or twice for a couple hours, its not going to hurt you. Those risks are for people who wear them more than 8 hours and for the whole time of their period. [ AngelKMC65's advice column | Ask AngelKMC65 A Question ]
justletmebe answered Thursday May 20 2010, 3:32 pm: ok maybe try using the light tampons they are smaller and dont bug you as much. the pill you may be ok but it could mess up if you have a reaction to it. or if are that desperate just wear a light pad and wear shorts when u swim like soccer shorts [ justletmebe's advice column | Ask justletmebe A Question ]
Peeps answered Wednesday May 19 2010, 8:09 pm: Not using tampons is your best choice anyway.
Why?
Because there's no reason why you should shove a piece of chlorine bleach soaked, dried-out cotton piece up your vagina. The removal of this in itself is actually harmful to your natural sensations. Yep, densensitizing your vaginal area is probably something you don't want anyway ;)
I have dangers of using tampons right here (ignore my "2" rating...you can clearly see why it's inappropriate):
Now, I do suggest that you might want to look into menstrual cups. They are easily insert, don't harm your sensitive vaginal walls, and can be worn at any time--even when you're not even on your period--safely. Here is some information I provided to another user when they were curious about the Instead cups:
Mind you, my experience is a little different than most women when it comes to Insteads so don't just toss away that idea either. I would suggest the reusable ones for many reasons, including them being cheaper in the long-run.
Nobody would know that you would be wearing a menstrual cup. They can safely be worn longer than tampons. You can order them online or pick them up at various local stores. The Instead brand says that you can even have sex wtih it inserted. Lots of perks to this option, especially when it comes to your health.
Nix the idea about the hormonal birth control pills. If you're not sexually active then you don't need them, especially if your period is fairly regular. You don't need to be pumping your body full of synthetic hormones to alter it's natural balance, you know? Having your period on time isn't the end of the world and it can be dealt with appropriately. Just let your period do it's natural thing since it's usually on time and be darn glad about it :) you're lucky, trust me. [ Peeps's advice column | Ask Peeps A Question ]
WittyUsernameHere answered Wednesday May 19 2010, 8:01 pm: I would like to correct the poster below. There are two different types of birth control pills, the type that uses only progestin and the type that uses synthetic estrogen and progestin together (far more common)
There are different brands which contain different amounts of these hormones, for instance ortho tri cyclen has different amounts of hormone each week while loetrin 24 (the type my wife was on) has the same amount of hormones each day throughout the month. But these all contain the same active chemical hormones inside them.
Taking just a month wouldn't help, however. The last week is sugar pills, and likely you'd still get your period somewhat on schedule when the hormones stop. Pills work by tricking your body into thinking you're pregnant. When the hormones stop, your body picks up where it left off and your period starts. Other methods can get rid of your period for a while by giving you a constant hormone dose. The shot is an example, instead of a pill with a tiny amount daily, it's a bunch all at once that lasts for three months. Some women actually don't like it because when sexually active missing your period for three months out of the year can be nerve wracking.
Also, we really can't advise you to take a friends pills. It's still proscription medication, which you aren't supposed to have without said proscription. Minor as it is, we can't advise you to do something illegal. [ WittyUsernameHere's advice column | Ask WittyUsernameHere A Question ]
Melody answered Wednesday May 19 2010, 5:17 pm: There isn't anything you can do, aside from wearing tampons which you are obviously completely against.
If you want to take birth control, you have to have a physical examination. Every type of pill is different, so you can't just "borrow" some from your friend. It's unsafe.
There is no way to make your period come slower or faster. It comes when it's supposed to, and that's that.
I can give you some advice on wearing tampons (making them more comfortable, inserting them correctly) if you want me too. Just inbox me. [ Melody's advice column | Ask Melody A Question ]
