People may have several dates to where they think that the world is going to end. you can find in revelations and several other places in the Bible stating that no one knows when the world is going to end except for God himself. So who can say that the world is going to end 2012? No one has the authority to say that. Well, we can all say what we want. The Bible states that no one knows the day nor the hour that Jesus will come back for his second coming. It may be today, tonight, or maybe 10 years from now. But the Bible does state that it will be unexpected though. [ skylalou_1's advice column | Ask skylalou_1 A Question ]
schochie16 answered Monday March 15 2010, 10:53 pm: NASA says it's not true. The ancient myans- I believe that's who- made a calender that ended on that day. That is the only evidennce even suggesting it.
The world will eventually end, but not for billions of years.
People make 2012 a bigger deal than it is, that is why people started becomeing afraid of it. The more people talk the more people believe it is true.
When it comes down to it it is wether you believe NASA or th myans. It's up to you what you believe and all the answers are going to be biest. I personally don't think it will end. Just google it and you will get both sides of the story.
Either way if the world does end, don't be afraid it is nothing you can control. All you can do is what you've been doing so far-- live your life. Have fun! Don't worry!!!
LagunaBabe answered Monday March 15 2010, 8:28 pm: It is not true, my friend. The bible says that the world, yes, will come to an end, however, no one will know the date. So people claiming it's going to end are full of it because no one will ever know when it's actually going to end -- so please, do not be scared. Also, if you know where you're going, you have nothing to fear either. :) [ LagunaBabe's advice column | Ask LagunaBabe A Question ]
SarcasticGreetings answered Monday March 15 2010, 7:02 pm: 12/21/12 is utter bullshit.
Yes, the Mayans marked it down. But it's just the end of their calendar. Not the end of the world as we know it (do you freak out at about the apocalypse every Dec 31, when OUR calendar ends?). The Mayans didn't believe in the world ending at that day; they saw life and the world as a series of cycles. 12/21 was just the end of one cycle. The stuff you saw in the movie 2012 about Mayans committing mass suicides nearing the date was a load of crap; Mayans do not believe that the world is ending. They're living life right now as if nothing's wrong. And so should you.
Honestly, the world can end at pretty much any given date. If Yellowstone DOES erupt, the entire planet will enter nuclear winter due to the vast amount of volcanic ash thrown into the atmosphere. But that doesn't mean it will happen on 12/21. It has as high a probability of erupting on 12/21 as it does three months from now or thirty years from now. Geological forces can be extremely unpredictable.
Another part of the 2012 movie was the shifting of earth's magnetic poles. Guess what. The pole is shifting CONSTANTLY. Seriously, some people have jobs that entail driving around in a snowmobile and tracking where the pole is. The magnetic north pole has been shifting toward the north, I believe. And at the rate that it's traveling, it's estimated that in 50 years the north pole will be somewhere in Siberia. Yes, the traveling speed of the magnetic north pole has increased over the past couple of years. There is a possibility that at some point in the future the poles may completely reverse, but nobody knows (And this happens like every couple hundred thousand years or so). Clearly, nobody's been around to witness it to know the effects or how quickly it changes. But I doubt it'll END the world. Furthermore, even if it were to happen, it takes THOUSANDS of years to complete. Your life will be over before you can even notice that the poles have shifted.
Also, no planet / comet / etc. is going to collide with earth. If it were going to, we would have detected it a LONG time ago.

No one knows when the world will end. if you read Revelation in the bible, God says that no one knows the time, nor the day, nor the place when he will come. Not even his son Jesus knows. You see things that people say like eathrquakes and etc happening, those does not cause the end of the world only God knows when the world will end. But when it does, there is no second chance. so we best be ready by being saved by God! [ sarline's advice column | Ask sarline A Question ]
hear2listen answered Monday March 15 2010, 4:56 pm: While we can never be sure that the world will end on the 21st of December in 2012, there is a large probability that the earth has a much longer time to thrive. What may seem like fact is most likely fiction. A lot of the time, with the recent literature and film productions, the fine line between fact and fiction is blurred. Don't worry yourself about the end of the world. The truth is, no one knows the exact date of the Earth's ultimate distruction--not even the oh-so-brilliant Mayans--except for One. The Earth may thrive for another million years, or may whither away into nothingness tomorrow. Living in fear will only make you miserable, it won't help in any way. Only God knows when the world will end. [ hear2listen's advice column | Ask hear2listen A Question ]
Ignatz answered Monday March 15 2010, 4:48 pm: It's not true.
The date 12/21/12 corresponds to the date 13.00.00.00 on the ancient Maya calendar known as the Long Count. Supposedly, the end of the 13th baktun of the Mayan calendar signals a new cycle of creation. Depending on your prophet of choice, this can mean everything from worldwide catastrophe to a fundamental change in the way people think. Of course, according to people who actually study ancient Maya culture and cosmology, the date 13.00.00.00 is something like December 31st - the end of one cycle and the beginning of another. Here's an article in Archaeology magazine about it. [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
The Long Count calendar has nothing to do with current events. The ancient Maya were not prophets or more cosmically connected than we are. It can be very dangerous to draw connections across unrelated cultures in an attempt to predict the future or prove some theory. The world isn't going to end on 12/21/2012; Roland Emmerich was just trying to make some money.
Razhie answered Monday March 15 2010, 4:45 pm: It's simply not true. At all. Not a single story I've heard about the world ending in 2012 is even remotely close to the truth.
If the world ends in 2012, it will mean all these idiots made a lucky guess, not that they were right.
If there is a praticular myth you need explained, I'd be happy to answer another question about a specific topic. I have not yet come across a single 2012 perdiction that wasn't based on myth, misunderstanding, or just general stupidity. [ Razhie's advice column | Ask Razhie A Question ]
