I want to get ear gauges. However, my parents think it's a dumb idea and I won't ever be able to get a job with them. They believe that they won't heal back if I decide to take them out. They say I can have them when I move out, but I know I won't want them then.

While it looks appealing now, it won't when you're older. The bigger you get them, the less of a chance there is of them healing & getting back to normal. Obviously the smaller the whole is, the easier the chance it has of healing. I wouldn't take the chance.
Like a person mentioned below, most if not all places will be against visible tattoos & piercings. You need to remember that you're almost of age to get a job and when you have a job, you represent the company. Visible tattoos & extreme piercings won't represent them well. The only places that I know of that don't really care when it comes to that type of stuff are Hot Topic, Zumiez & Pac Sun.
You also represent your parents from the time you're born until the time you die. You need to remember that not everything is about you and that if your parents say NO then it means NO. You cannot change their mind, you cannot convince them. Their mind is made up. You have to accept that. [ christina's advice column | Ask christina A Question ]

The chances of them healing and going back to normal are very slim only because the lower ear is cartilage. I don't think there is really anyway to convince your parents to get them, Trying to get them by sneaking is also not possible because anyone under the age of 18 is required to have a parent sign papers also your parents must be there and yes they do check ID's. Also, most jobs do not hire people with visible tattoos or unattractive peircings as it draws attention and costumers complain. [ BahaiMa22's advice column | Ask BahaiMa22 A Question ]
xosodapopx3 answered Sunday August 9 2009, 10:34 pm: I wont give my opinion on ear gauges considering thats not the question you are asking :-).
You can try to compromise with your parents on a size. Show them a really small size, then say : "see, its not bad at all, its just a little bigger than a regular earing hole." Tell them you might not even go through with the whole process, you just want to try them out. Start out with that, and once they become more comfortable with them on you, it wont be that big of a deal.
Good Luck! [ xosodapopx3's advice column | Ask xosodapopx3 A Question ]
Hitoast answered Sunday August 9 2009, 10:29 pm: Hi, I'm 15/f as well and I've had ear gauges before. Honestly, I'm agreeing with your parents :/ they didn't seem so cool when I had them and they just felt weird. I always felt like people were staring at them... not to mention, depending on how big you want them, they can take a long time to get to the size you want. You can't just put in a size 2. You have to start out small and get up to a bigger size. Also, if you don't think you'll want them when you get older, why bother with them now? Depending on the size, they can do permanent stretching and then if you don't want them when you get older, you'll just have big holes in your ears. Really, there isn't a way to 'convince' your parents about this. Almost all parents would be against this idea, and there really aren't any 'good benefits' you get for them... so I say you should just wait. If you still want them when you get older, then you can get them :) hope I helped a little...
