Do you like and use Facebook?

Question Posted Wednesday July 8 2009, 6:52 pm

So, I'm thinking about some ideas for creating my own social website. I need opinions though based on other websites similar to my idea and was hoping that some people here could help me out so I don't have to sign up for the ones I don't use and become active on ones I no longer use.

Question of the day is:

What do you and don't you like about Facebook?
What can be improved on Facebook? How can Facebook improve that specific flaw (or, alternatively, can it NOT be improved for certain reasons) in your opinion?

Official Facebook users only please!

Thank you so much, Advicenators! :D

I like that Facebook is more or less people's statuses. You can always see what people are doing. I like that you can like someone's status as well. It doesn't take long to get used to once they change it up.

I think the things I don't like about Facebook are that they keep changing it. They only give it a couple of months before they change it again. I also think that they should add a 'dislike' option to statuses. I don't like that when you write on someone's wall, that it displays it on the main page either. Writing on someone's wall is kind of personal, and you don't want your whole friends list to see if they're friends with the same person. Pictures are kind of a pain in the ass to upload as well because there's no set place where you upload them like there is on MySpace.

I'm not really sure what they can do to improve, but I guess they could just add & take away some of the things I listed, and it'd be fine.

I like that Facebook is organized and easy to use and really easy to get used to.

I don't like all the applications on Facebook. I like the main ones (Bumper Sticker, Notes, Video, Compare People), but I hate the small, meaningless ones (What Type of Underwear Should You Wear, etc.)

I think Facebook should allow you to have a profile song like Myspace, and you should be able to pick a profile color. I like that you don't have to fancy up the entire page though (even though that's one of the reasons I still like Myspace).

I love facebook because I can upload all my pictures entirely for free. Sketchily enough, I like getting random updates about random people I know. And I like keeping in touch with everyone. I like the bar at the bottom of the screen, which makes for a sort of visual favorites page. I like the notification system and the completely private inbox. I especially like how clean and official it looks, with everyone having the same, simple layout and using their real names instead of witty phrases.

I don't like the quizzes and certain obnoxious applications, like the Vampires vs. Werewolves craze awhile back, and the What Color Are You? shenanigans that's finally beginning to fade away. The chain-notes are less annoying because the results are actually fun to look at, and I don't get constant notifications about them. Applications I do like include Honesty Box and Bumper Sticker, although the latter can get both addicting and spam-like. I would like some sort of audio, where you could add a song to your profile without it automatically playing when people visit your profile.

I don't like the new layout, where I can't tell the difference between wall posts and status updates. I want birthdays up at the top of the homepage again. And I don't like facebook chat, because it slows down my computer; I think this is more of a personal problem than a problem with facebook chat itself.

What do I like? I like that it's easy to stay in touch with people. I like pictures and being able to tag people in them. I like writing notes and tagging people in them.

What do I not like? I don't like stupid applications that I never use. I don't like stupid "Top 5 things" quizzes. I don't like all the stupid crap that clutters up the page.

How can Facebook improve that? Get rid of the stupid apps completely. Get rid of stupid quizzes.

Facebook makes me like Twitter because Twitter is like Facebook but only with updates and messages. So that's cool.

Well....

To be honest I like Facebook a lot more than Myspace only because these days Facebook seems to be more popular yet more people seem to be using it. There are certain features on the website that is almost identical to Myspace. I like the fact that you can play games on Facebook..3d games meaning unlike Myspace where you could have an application downloaded but all it is just a tiny screen in the corner with bad animations... Hm..
