ok weird question about sweating

Question Posted Sunday June 21 2009, 4:22 pm

Ok this is going to sound really weird but like im 17 female and like since summer started i have been sweating a lot. I mean a lot. I put on a shirt and within 1 hour the armpit part of my shirt is wet. I'm a skiny girl and I dont no why this happens to me! Sometimes it makes my shirts by the armpits turn like yellowish brown and its disguesting. Ive tried wearing different kinds of deodorants but nothing works! Any advice?

Yes, you will have to go to the doctor. You have a gland problem. You can also try putting alcohol under your arms before using deo. I also recommend you to buy the secret clinical deo. It helps. Also being skinny or fat has nothing to do with gland and sweating issues, even though I understand why you would think so. Also, try mixing baby powder with the clinical strength deo. I would do all of those things first before going to the doctor. I think they will work. I have a friend with the same problem, so it happens to normal people all the time. Nothing to worry about dearheart.
Good Luck!

so you say you've tried the deodorants that are for sweating less? Make sure you have tried those. Then if they still dont work, you want to see your doctor, or I think they would refer you to a determatologist. It is important to handle this because you dont want it interfering in your social life. good luck

I'm honored that you asked me, but I honestly don't know the answer to this one ): I'm sorry! I would ask a doctor about it.

Don't worry, they won't be weirded out, they've seen weirder things. And it isn't your fault, it seems to be something your body is doing on its own, without strenous excercise or really any other logical reason.. Mention the fact that deodorants aren't working.

Okay, I just WebMD-searched it, and it sounds like you could have hyperhidrosis - which basically means you sweat too much. Wikipedia says that there are treatments for hyperhidrosis, which go from non-prescription drugs to prescription drugs to surgery. (It also says that regular antiperspirants usually aren't concentrated enough for people with hyperhidrosis, which would explain your situation.) I would definitely suggest seeing a doctor. In the meantime, stick to sleeveless shirts and take frequent bathroom breaks to, uh, wipe yourself down. It could be worse!

Good luck!

Well, to be honest, since it is in summer, don't you think that it may be because of the temperature? I mean, after all, summer can get really hot sometimes.

HYPERHIDROSIS?
(There are some people spell it as hyperhydrosis.)

If it's not just our normal "sweat-because-it's-too-hot" deal, then it might be hyperhidrosis (a medical condition where the patient sweat excessively). I suggest you to go to a dermatologist (a doctor that is specialized in skin conditions) and tell him what you've told me, and also tell him that you think you have hyperhidrosis.

CAUSE?

Don't expect the doctor to discover the cause of this though, because the cause of hyperhidrosis is, as of now, unknown. Your doctor could guess, but he could never be sure.

PARENT TO CHILD?

Before that, ask your mother and father whether they have had excessive sweating, too. If yes, go ahead and blame them for that and make them buy you new clothes or something, hahaha. (Yes, hyperhidrosis can go from parent to child, which means it is possible for your children to have hyperhidrosis, too, if you were to be diagnosed with it.)

BOTOX AS A TREATMENT?

Also, if you were to be diagnosed with hyperhidrosis, your doctor might prescribe you with Botox. It is, as of now, the number one cosmetic surgery procedure so I suspect that your doctor would like to use it. Botox is relatively safe, but be aware that it is made from a deadly toxin produced by Clostridium Botulinum. Again, the risk is very, very small, but you need to know that it is not 100% safe.

HYPERTHYROIDISM?

That, and you might want to check for hyperthyroidism (over-activity of the thyroid gland). It can be diagnosed by a simple blood test. hyperthyroidism is one of the many possible cause of hyperhidrosis, but then again, you're not here, and so is your blood. I have no idea.

Hope this helps,

Instead of a deodorant you may want to try an antiperspirant. A deodorant is really nothing more than armpit perfume where an antiperspirant is suppose to help you keep from sweating.

As to why you are sweating as you are, I really don’t know. Sweating is not always the result of heat. Are you anxious about something? Have you spoken with your mother about this? If you haven’t I would suggest you do so. This may be nothing more than a normal change in the hormonal make up of your body but to be sure you should schedule an appointment with your doctor.

I have that same problem, but worse. I've suffered for it since the end of 4th grade. I was CONSTANTLY on the internet searching up things to stop it, but there really is nothing. I have seen LOADS of doctors about it, too and their all dumb founded. UGH doctors piss me off haha

SO I did a little more research, confronted my dermatologist with my findings, and he prescribed me a pill. This pill however, is not for sweating, its instead an antidepressant. I obviously don't take it for depression though.

How this pill helps sweating:

See, although no oneeeee who's around me can tell, I have SEVERE anxiety issues because I'm constantly worrying about what people are thinking about me. So, I sweat under my armpits like mad crazy.

So, the anti-depressant calms me down, my hormones aren't all over the darn place which use to unbalance everything and make me sweat. So, when I take the pills, I'm fine. I'm calm, and don't sweat. BUT I'm drowsy. VERY VERY sleepy.

The pill is called Doxepin

If there's anything else you think I should know about you that might determine something else, let me know. I'm pretty good and medical stuff.

Have you tried deoderants you put on at night? Their sold at Walgreens and other common places. Things called certain dri and stuff. The issues I had with these though are they irritated me after a couples uses. If it doesn't irritate your skin, I would put it on at bed time like this:

Without having your shirt on, lay in bed and apply the certain dri deoderant. Have a fan ready and let it blow on your arm pits until their dry THEM add lotion to them.

Before doing the pill idea, find certain dri and do that for a week first! Them reply back to me and let me know how everything went :)

Hope I want helpful!
