Novel ideas

Question Posted Sunday June 14 2009, 12:07 am

Does anyone know of a really great romance novel that would make me cry?
Or even just a sad book that's somewhat of a tearjerker?

I love sad stories with no "neat" endings. Lol I know that sounds depressing but yeah, that's it.
Thanks!

Well, the books by Khaled Hosseini made me cry. I've read 2 of his books, don't know if he has more, willing to read them.. But the 2 books are, "The Kite Runner" and "A Thousand Splendid Suns".. You might have heard of "The Kite Runner", it is quite touching, it's about friendship and loyalty etc. You just have to ready it, I strongly recommend it. "The Kite Runner" was his first book and it did so well, it came no. 1 in one of the book review things. They are based in Afghanistan, so the stories he writes are affected by the culture and the history of Afghanistan.

'The Crow'. Everyone has seen the movie, but no one takes the time to read the graphic novel. It was written by James O'Barr. He lost the woman he loved to a drunk driver and wrote "The Crow". It has been dubbed the greatest love letter because of the raw emotion that has been put into it. I cry every time I read it, and often come back to it when I can't understand the world that well.

A Child called It, & The Lost Boy made me cry. I think if you're soft hearted, you'll do the same.

Good Luck !

Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton is a great classic romance novel. It's a relatively short and quick read, and the ending is anything but happy, while still being quite romantic.

If you're looking for something a bit more modern, Jodi Picoult books usually have pretty depressing endings-- I don't know anybody who didn't cry at the end of My Sister's Keeper. Another one of her books, The Pact, really focuses on a romance between two teenagers. Pretty sad, too :(

Nicholas Sparks is an amazing romance author. Try his books for sure.

Honey, Baby, Sweetheart by Ded Caletti and The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold.
