Question Posted Thursday January 29 2009, 4:53 pm

I masterbate, never had sex, but do watch porn. Is watching porn bad? I never really understood if it was or not. Sometimes I feel like I am betraying god, other times I say to myself I am not doing anything bad. opinions, anything please!

Watching porn is not a sin, hello mary magdelene was a prostitute. masterbation is healthy, people have been doing it for thousands of years.
People who think it is are brainwashed sheep. If you want to masterbate and watch porn, then do it. Live you're life how you want to.

Porn is really meant for adults. Having that you're almost 18 and not a teen nor someone younger. It's not an accurate depiction of sexuality either or responsibility.

That said a lot of adults of all different beliefs watch it. If you feel it's against yours and your values don't. If you watch it it can't physically harm you or mentally at this point but can/will for minors who are too young and not meant to view it.

Are you betraying God? Hardly. Whether you masturbate frequently or watch porn it can't change your relationship with God. It's either solid or it isn't. Also females of all ages roughly 78% of them and 90% of males masturbate. It's normal, safe etc. Doctors have said as much repeatedly in media.

It's not always a sexual thing either. People do it because it feels good, relieves stress or is comforting that's so of many young people. It becomes sexual much later and is UNIVERSAL with teens. So, relax, you aren't doing anything wrong if the majority of people are doing it.

When it comes to porn if you could wait until you are 18 that's best. What would your parents think if you were watching it or acquiring it? When you are an adult you can make the choice to see it or not. Minors shouldn't have access to it.

Even though I believe in God, I do not think that watching porn is that huge of a deal. Even if watching porn is supposedly as bad as murdering school children, that does not mean I would go on a killing rampage. And honestly, I do not believe that God is going to send a person to hell for watching porn. Killing children on the other hand is a different story.

But that is totally and completely my views. Everyone views things differently.

For example, I personally would never have an abortion, ever. However if someone else does it, (even though I don't agree with it) that is their choice, and they obviously view that as being okay even if I don't.

Basically, no one can tell you what God views as betraying Him. The Bible may be able to tell you, but everyone views the Bible differently too. There are tons of different ways to interpret pretty much everything in there.

If watching porn makes you feel like a bad person, or makes you feel like you are betraying God, then don't do it. But I believe God won't send anyone to hell for pleasuring themselves.

I think if you are guilty because you feel you're betraying God with a specific behavior then you should stop doing it and pray for forgiveness. God has given up the right to choose between good and bad and, with that, ability to feel guilt when choosing something harmful. If you feel that your behavior MIGHT be bad then you really need to sit down and decide what you want to do. The feeling will only go away when other humans tell you that it's normal. The thing to remember is that we humans are not God--He is the only one that knows so prayer is required.

It's also illegal to watch porn before you're 18 (21 in some states). So, depending on your country and state, the law may differ. Pornography is not illegal, but viewing or creating such things while under the age of 18/21 is very illegal. I am uncertain of the consequences, but I'd say that you and your parents would be in trouble if it was found.

I certainly wouldn't want to make a bad choice in my viewing and have my parents taken in for questioning as to why they allowed you to view pornography. It's considered damaging to your young mind so I'm sure your parents wouldn't be so happy to find out they could be in trouble for your sexual curiosity.

There is a reason why porn sites make you click a link, claiming you to be at least 18 (21 in some states) so that they are not liable for any "damages" done to you. The site will clearly state that there will be "adult content" on the site and if you have made a mistype then to EXIT or click that you're under 18/21. They don't just put that sort of thing on porn sites for the hell of it, you know. :)

In addition to the above, watching pornography may make you comfortable with certain sexual acts that you, otherwise, would not be very accepting of. It also may desensitize you to sex, making it harder for you to become pleased when you have a partner or making you feel that having multiple partners is completely acceptable. Pornography does a lot to our minds that we're simply not aware of. The serial killer, Ted Bundy, claims to have killed many women because he begin viewing BDSM pornography at a young age--porn, obviously, effects different people in different ways.

Pornography and masturbation may or may not be a sin but it is harmful if you are having guilty feelings. You should find out where the guilty feelings stem from and pray for the right answers. That is the only way you are going to find out the truth of the matter.

If you have any more questions please feel free to ask me! :)

Hi! Don't feel ashamed! Don't, Don't, Don't! Masterbation is completely natural and porn is just simply a stimulator. I know it's easy to feel guilty about doing things like this (especially when religion is thrown into the mix!), but just know that everyone does it. We might not all do it to porn, because that's a personal choice, but we all do it. You're not betraying God...and if you truly feel like you are, ask for forgiveness. He is supposed to be the most forgiving being. Also, this may make you feel a little better about your "problem": Studies have shown that orgasming at least 200 times a year will lengthen a person's life by about 6 years! So just think of masterbating to porn as a way to add 6 more years onto your life!

Lots of Love,
Lee
