Question Posted Tuesday January 6 2009, 5:27 pm

15 / F
With the first black president in office and all this stuff going on, my family started talking about this date.
My family has a very strong spiritual background as Christians, but mine isn't as strong. I have accepted the Lord as my savior, been baptised, yadda yadda, but still. I have doubts about religion. What if it all really DID just start out from dust and particles and stuff?
I'm almost sixteen and I'm worried that IF anything significant should happen on that date, I won't be ready. When the signs show, I'm scared that everyone will be raptured up to heaven and I'll be left behind :[

I lie, I lust, I *ahem* pleasure myself. And I feel TERRIBLE for it. I don't read any of the books on young girls and God that I get for Christmas. They all seem kinda boring. But I don't have the time to read the bible cover to cover, even though God doesn't care. He wants us to MAKE time for him!

I just don't know where to start. HELP!

prayer often helps. and asking the lord for protection will do good. as long as you keep your faith in the lord, he knows that and if you hold him above everything else then he will surely accept you into heaven. God is not someone who looks at all of your faults but he looks deep into your heart and sees all of your greatness and beauty. God sees all of the potential aslo in you. the potential to become something great. Try reading the bible more and singing worship songs. trust me...i am in the same position as you and it is difficult but you just have to look beyond everything and find God. He will understand you. I will pray for you. whatever happens, it is in God's hands.

if there are anymore questions relating this topic or if you just wanna talk i'll be here and God is here.

You should pray and ask God to help you. Repent all your sins. He will listen. He loves you and wants to help you. He will run to you take you in His arms and tell you its ok. You need to re-dedicate your life to Him. Read the bible all you need to know is in there. Doubting is not good. God IS real. He created us and sent His son to die for us. That is the ultimate sacrifice! How could you doubt that? The bible is not boring. It tells how the earth was formed and how Jesus was born, lived, and died. Really pray and ask God to be with you in everything you do. You will start to notice His hand in everything you do. Good luck and God bless you.

I've been there. I know exactly how you feel. All I can say is the best way to start is to pray. Ask God to fill you with his presence. You'll know when he's there. Repent. The thing's you have done can always be forgiven. And also one problem might be, That this might not be the right church for you. Everyone has different opinions of diferent churches. You can try baptist, pentocostle, ect. For example, When I first started going to church I went to a babtist church, I honostly didn't feel God at all while I was there. Then my friend invited me to her church [pentocoltle] and I felt God's presence and I knew he was real. And don't worry about the wrongs you've done, they can be forgiven, Just talk to God and ask him for forgiveness again. I'm sure you'll do what God wants for you.

Peeps answered Wednesday January 7 2009, 1:37 pm:
We aren't God and that's the first thing we should realize. We don't know when the end of the world is coming. We don't when the things in the Bible are to come. We can only guess based on the clues around us.

That being said, December 21, 2012 might be a regular day--or not. We don't know for sure. Tomorrow might not be a regular day. A year from now could be the end for this world. We really don't know.

God knows we sin. We sin in a lot of things we do, even. He is well aware that we aren't perfect--and we shouldn't expect ourselves to be perfect. He is the only perfect being.

This being said, that's why we have prayer. That's why we can drop to our knees and say, "God, I am SO sorry I did that! I wasn't thinking. I wasn't serving You. Please, forgive me for that sin! I'll do better."

Cut down on your lying. Pray for forgiveness. Ask God for help to stop lying. Try your hardest to stop. Prove to him that you're improving and I'm sure He'll make that easier for you.

Do that with your daily life. Go through your day and notice your sins. Most people simply don't realize how many times they sin each and every day. Most people don't realize how much they need God's forgiveness.

God knows we're beings of pleasure. Try to serve Him though. Try to stop doing the daily sins you do. Try to cut them out. When you're tempted, pray. When you're angry, stop and pray. When you're disbelieving the Bible and God so much--pray. Pray for your soul, your mind, your body, more time, and others. If you keep questioning God, then pray for enlightenment. God doesn't grant everything we want, obviously, because He knows best and we simply don't--so don't expect all to be better after you pray, but know that He listened.

You don't have to read the Bible cover-to-cover all at once. You could read a couple of pages each night before bedtime. Make 15 minutes to read a couple of pages. What is 15 minutes, right? Even if that is too much to ask, then read 15 minutes out of the Bible once a week--or however often you can manage. If you set down a certain time/date to do this then it is easier to stick to it.
Read the Bible for knowledge. Don't read it JUST to please God--read it so you know what has happened and what is to come. Read it for information.

Books about young girls and God are, really, whatever. Some of those books have underlying information that is NOT God-like or God-approved. Some of those books are absolutely useless to your soul. The Bible is the only book you should be upset about not reading through sometimes.

It's like church. Going to church isn't going to send you to Heaven. Going to a specific church usually isn't going to change whether or not you are going to Heaven. It's YOU. Not the church. Not reading books other than the Bible. Not wearing crosses all over yourself. It's just...YOU. You have the power of prayer. Use it.

Sit down and relax. Think through what you can change and start doing it slowly. Pray as much as you can. Ask God for strength, wisdom, and everything you feel you're lacking. Try your hardest to become the person you, obviously, want to be.

I hope you find the truth you're looking for soon. If you have any more questions please feel free to ask me! :)

Although I would not quite say that the space-time continuum "started out from dust and particles and stuff," the scientists of the Galactic Sodality have determined that the nature of space-time requires no external cause for it to exist.
December 21, 2012 is just a day, as reckoned in one human calendar. Your globe will spin through 360 degrees during that period, as it has spun countless times before.
Honestly, it's a little insulting to the rest of the intelligent species in the universe when certain humans suggest that some particular rotation of their one planet will have enormous consequences for the rest of us. If I were to tell you that your sun will go out like a snuffed candle when my home planet of Procyon III rotates 100 more times, you'd rightly think I was mistaken.

Still, you desire to be 'ready' for this phantom day. True wisdom is to live each and every day as if it were your last; do nothing that would cause you to regret your actions or inactions. And if you should fail on some day (as we all do; no sophont is perfect), then set your eyes on tomorrow and try again.

Do not try to be 'good enough' on some random day in 2012. Try to be a little better, a little wiser, a little smarter each day.

The book of revelation was written by a man who had rabies.

Also, the rapture is complete BS. Even if you put stock in revelation, there is not a single mention of anything like the rapture in it. Like many aspects of christian faith (ever heard of purgatory?) its something that was made up by religious leaders.

Just be the best person you can be and ask forgiveness for your shortcomings.

Take a deep breath.

I won't presume to tell you what you to believe, but here are some very basic things to get you started with addressing the issue of 2012.

2012 is not actually biblical.
The idea that 2012 is a Christian idea comes mostly from the 1997 book called The Bible Code by Michael Drosnin that says a comet will collide with earth by ‘decoding’ secret messages in the bible... There is no sense at all to this 'code' using Drosnin's method for finding 'codes' in the bible you could get the same sort of predictions off the front page of the New York Times. (Drosnin also believed those codes were put there by Aliens, not God and also predicted nuclear war in 2006... after it didn’t happen he said the Bible Code showed possible futures, not definite ones. Dumbass.)

No ancient societies predicted the end of the world in 2012.
Not the Mayans or the Egyptians. People say that they do, but they didn’t. They simply had calendars that ended that year. Much the same way we had a big ending in 1999. There is no evidence that it was a very big deal to those cultures.

Frankly, the idea of ‘the rapture’ isn’t really biblical either...
The rapture is a modern theory based on the bible. Not a single writer mentions a word about anything like it until the 17th century. I know people debate this, but as you have read the bible thoroughly I’m sure you realize that many of the statements in Revelations contradict themselves and it is hard to figure out how it could ALL be true and almost impossible to figure out how they could be true in the order they are put down in. The timeline the bible lays out for the end days doesn’t make sense, not as a timeline anyways. The idea of ‘The Rapture’ happened as a way to make ALL of those confusing timelines true, by basically introducing a ‘soft coming’ of Christ before the actual ‘Second Coming’.

There WILL be a cool alignment around that time with Venus and possibly the center of our milky way galaxy. But that is just a neat phenomenon, and will have no effect on anything, not gravity or our magnetic polls or anything. It’s just a matter of perspective and it’s kinda cool. That’s all.

Just go and live the life you want to live. If that is a god-fearing life, great! Go do that. But don’t waste your time worrying about this. There is so much nonsense being said, even more so then there was in 1999, and there were a whole bunch of nuts then, both religious and scientific trying to tell us we are all going to die. They were wrong then, and we all just let them off the hook for it. They will be wrong on Dec 12, 2012, and we’ll probably let them off the hook for it then too.
