Please do not judge me.
I have been Bulimic for
a year or so now,
and its become so that
i have to do it, its like in my
head, i feel horrible if i eat something
and dont throw it up...
i only do it once a day but
anyways...
my real question is
does it effect your birth control???
started taking it 3 weeks ago and i take it at like 1 in the afterrnoon
and i throw up after dinner which could be anywhere from 6-9 at night...
so does this effect the pill?
like is it still affective???
Peeps answered Thursday December 4 2008, 10:07 pm: Please, seek help for your bulimia. You know that it can hurt you very badly and has killed many, many young women. Open up to an adult and get the help you need before things become severe and you lose your life to this.
Typically do not have to worry if you've thrown up your pill as long as it's been in your system for about 3 hours or so unless you have an abnormally slow metabolism. Since bulimia does tend to make your metabolism slow, I'd probably tack on a couple of hours to that number for safety. For women with normal metabolisms: If you thrown up a pill before the 3 hour mark or so then you should immediately take the next pill in the pack so you're still protected. THEN, you will have to see your doctor as to what to do next because if you end your period earlier than usual (making you have 8 days of inactive pills instead of 7) then you may not be covered.
Remember that the hormonal birth control isn't 100% effective. It is only 99% effective with PERFECT usage, which means you do not gain or lose weight, take the pill at the EXACT same time each day, do not experience stress or illness, etc. It is actually only about 92% effective with typical usage so you should always be using another method of protection just in case it fails. Condoms are about 88% effective with typical usage, just a note.
Normally, I would say: If your period is late or non-existent this month then you should pick up a home pregnancy test. You will have to wait a few days after your period is late to get an accurate read-out so it's probably not best to take it too early. If the test shows positive then you are for sure pregnant. If the test shows negative and your period still hasn't shown up then you should make a doctor's appointment to have a pregnancy test done there (more accurate than the home versions).
For you, I say: If your period does not come when it should this month then please seek medical care as it is a very, very bad sign for someone with your disorder. If you start going months without a period then please know that your body may not be able to recover from the bulimia and you may wind up completely infertile. Bulimia not only damages your esophagus, you see, but destroys your entire body.
I hope things will be fine and you seek the help you need for your disorder. Please remember to always use another form of birth control on the pill as well. If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask me :)
P.S. You CAN recover from bulimia, I promise. Your first step is to seek help, immediately. I know how hard it is to go through life like you are, so I am in no way judging your lifestyle, but please get help now. [ Peeps's advice column | Ask Peeps A Question ]

For your pill and for your bulumia. I am not going to judge you, i promise. I know the effects of bulimia and I think you really should get help. YOu only get one body, please be careful. I know how it feels to be scared to eat something or self conscious of it.
If you would like to talk about, I was borderline anneroxic for like a year, I know how it feels to be scared to eat, so if you would to talk about it I am here to listen.
Honestly, there is nothing wrong with getting help, it just might save your life. It saved mine.
PLease see your doctor, and remember you are beautiful so don't judge yourself or try to mutilate your body, and you will be fine I promise. :)
Girlie14 answered Wednesday December 3 2008, 8:08 pm: I'm not gonna judge bc I've been there too. Ummm idk. But I would think so because the pill most likely would have disolved up by then but I'm not a professional. If your curious then ask you doctor say you've been sick and want to know if it still works if you (throw up) say from your stomach being upset. Hope I help. Anyother questions you can just ask for my email. [ Girlie14's advice column | Ask Girlie14 A Question ]
