14f How old do you need to be to get your belly button pierced? I dont want to tell my mom but I want it done. Is there anyway around that?
Could you pierce it yourself? I seen it done in the movie thirteen.. they made it seem easy.

There's a risk of infection, as well as an allergic reaction to the jewelry. Look into belly clips: you get the decoration without the parental freakouts. And if you're still enamored of the idea in a few years, you can get pierced on your 18th birthday. [ Ignatz's advice column | Ask Ignatz A Question ]
raebabyyyy answered Sunday February 24 2008, 9:34 pm: You have to be 18 years old in most states to get professional piercings/tattoos done. Other states, the law could be 16 or even 17 years old. You always need parental consent if you're underage. A lot of people pierce it themselves, however the risk of infection and rejection are so much higher! My one friend pierced her own and the skin around the naval started to rot away. I know it's disgusting, but it's a bad idea to do it by yourself, no matter how clean you are. And please don't follow movies because it's all fake anyway. The best thing you can do is talk to your mom about it or wait until you're old enough, sorry. :/ [ raebabyyyy's advice column | Ask raebabyyyy A Question ]
Cassiopea answered Sunday February 24 2008, 8:12 pm: I agree to tell your mom you want it done and tell her you will pay for it. Ask her if there is anything you can do to prove that you are responsible enough to get it done. Make sure she knows that you don't want it just to show off your belly to people(even if you do want to). i think if you approach it right she might at least listen to you and maybe make a deal. god-smusgrove answered Sunday February 24 2008, 7:32 pm: you usually have to be of legal age. or have a parent's consent (birth certificate, and your mom's/dad's driver's license.) your parent must also be PRESENT.
Don't do it yourself, it's very painful. you're belly button is very fragile. needles that you would find around home are not the right metal. it can get infected. if something goes wrong what do you do?
ask your mom, talk to her about it. if she wants to get it done too, don't be surprised. offer her a collateral.
ex:
"mom if i bring my 'd' in math to a 'b' can i get it pierced?"
they'll like that you'll actually be showing that you want it instead of, "hey mom i wanna get my belly button pierced."
Hitoast answered Sunday February 24 2008, 7:30 pm: Yes, a friend of mine got a belly button piercing for her 14th birthday present. You definitely want to tell your mom though. If she says no, just talk to her, and explain that it's your body, and that you can always take it out. Just don't get into an argument about it, stay calm and just show her you can be mature about it. If you REALLY don't want to ask, ask a friends mom to take you, maybe one that doesn't know your mom or has a piercing herself. I strongly advise you NOT to do it yourself. You want to get it done professionally so there is no infection. Movies make everything seem easy lol :]

tobinator answered Sunday February 24 2008, 7:25 pm: I'm not sure how old you have to be to get it pierced, but a friend of mine tried piercing her's herself last year, it became infected and she said it wasn't that easy. I wouldn't advise trying it yourself, movies always make things look easier than they are... [ tobinator's advice column | Ask tobinator A Question ]
