Sophomore/female.
My parents are seriously considering home schooling for me. They think it's much better to be surrounded by an environment that doesn't involve drugs or bad influences..I just don't know where to look for the best homeschooling. I know there are websites..but which ones are the best? Is anyone homeschooled here? If you can, please tell me where to look. :)
MAK answered Friday January 4 2008, 6:56 pm: I have been home schooled since seventh grade. Basically, I follow the regular high school curriculum, and everything my mom can't teach me, I take at the local junior college. We are part of a charter school that provides text books, teachers, counselors, and even classes that you can take with other kids that are part of that charter school. It is a really positive experience, and a lot more layed back than high school. I learn a lot more than an average high schooler, and learn important life skills as well. I'm glad that you're parents are considering this option for you, although homeschooling isn't for everyone.
I don't really know what kind of websites you are talking about, but if you explain yourself better I would be happy to help you out =) If you have any questions about homeschooling, feel free to message me.
You're self aware. The fact that you can consider things like bad influences means they arent really influences for you. As a sophomore, youre intelligent enough to disassociate the rest. Homeschooling is much better during middle school and the first year of high school.

Seems as though you need to contact your State Department of Education. Your parents will have to register.
Here is a link for Kansas as an example of what I'm talking about: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
The State Department of Education should have all of the information your parents will need to provide you with the best homeschooling for you.

P.S. There is certainly nothing wrong with being homeschooled. If you are going to a dangerous school, then a safe environment isn't being provided to you by the school system.
Don't worry that you may end up "living your life in a bubble" because kids who are homeschooled DO have a social life, just like anyone else.
orphans answered Thursday January 3 2008, 5:11 am: Unfortunatelly, you cant live your life in a bubble.
School education is not just about maths and chemistry.
Its about becoming a complete person.
Sooner you will come into contact with something harmfull. What are you gonna do then?Freak out?
A complete person will not get harmed by outer danger.A weak one will. Getting into a bubble wont teach you anything.
Its like...cutting off internet cause its full of porn.
Of course, that might not be the matter.Maybe you just wanna get homeschooled cause your school is indeed really dangerous.
The thing is I dont know any people who got homeschooled, and I always imagine them as antisocial people who dont care about making friends, communicating, do not know how to handle certain situations.
