Babysitting a 2 year old that cries non-stop!

Question Posted Monday December 31 2007, 3:19 am

alright. so i babysit this two year old. the second his mom left he started screaming and it took me like 20394823 minutes to get him to stop crying. it was terrible. the only thing that makes him stop crying is when he watches the movie 'cars' and i couldnt get the tv to work. hes only two and he cant really talk yet (late developer i guess?) but anyways what else could i do to make him stop crying? ive tried distracting him with toys and stuff.

thanks =)

oh wierd i actually had the exact same thing two year old boy only being satisfied by the movie cars really irritating but i babysit alot of kids and usually if they go on crying for more than ten minutes they just need a nap make sure you ask if the kid has slept yet that day if your watching younger children vitally important haha

This is EXACTLY what happened to me!
All I said was "mommy will be home in a few minutes, ok, sweetie" then he still was sniffling. so i took him down stiars and his bro and sis nose how to make him laugh and they did that tehn we watched a movie. so just try to make him laugh!

i babysit as well and i've come across the same problem! What helped me was that I told him that Mommy will be back in a few minutes. That way he's calm and relaxed. Then, when he is okay I started playing with him and dancing and everything.

play with him and have his mom sneak out but say bye a little earlier then he wont notice and tell him that she'll be right back

I baby sit to so i know how you feel. i suggest asking his mom what he likes. Or make try to make him laugh. Make funny faces. Try everything till you find something that makes him stop crying. But if i were you id ask his mom because she should know. Good luck.

Rock him back and fourth or bribe him with food because that always works.

aahhh this happens to me all the time. but with a two year old girl.
what you need to do is just start to read a big picture book outloud.
you could do it two ways: 1) put him on your lap while he cries and just begin to read. naturally he'll stop because of the pictures and also he'll forget abou this mom. 2) just start to read it very loudly and hope that his curiousity takes over and he'll come over and join you.
i do the first one, i think it works better. ive tried playing with toys and like putting on shows, but it doesnt work too well.
the kid that does this to me, her mom told me its just shes putting on a show, which it totally is.
soo if i were you id read a book. theres something about it that just drives children crazzyyy
