I want to get braces but I'm worried. :(

Question Posted Wednesday October 17 2007, 6:03 pm

When getting braces do they hurt when they are putting them on or does it only hurt after they are done putting them on? Also would they pull any teeth or would they be able to fix anything teeth that is out of place depending on how far back it is?

it hurts for maybe a couple of days after you get them on (i had mine for three years lol)
and i don't think they'd pull out any teeth, they'd probably leave that to your dentist
aaaaand of course they'll fix it! you're paying $4,000 dollars (or at least that's what mine cost) to get them pretty, they better :]

good luck!

trust me, it's not as bad as it sounds.
they're just annoying sometimes.
hurts sometimes, but not for a ridiculous amount of time

I GOT MY BRACES OFF TODAY! WOOO!

Anyway, back to the the point. It doesn't really hurt when they put the braces on. I felt more pain after they were done putting them on. This pain doesn't last for more than a day or two, and you only really feel it when you eat.

Getting teeth pulled really depends on each individual's mouth. Personally, I didn't get anoy pulled, but I know people who had to get like 5 pulled.

I think braces are worth the pain. I can't stop smiling- I love my new mouth!

It depends on how well your teeth are, how badly they are crooked, etc. My teeth were pretty screwed up to begin with. I doubt it hurts but I had a bad experience because I'm very afraid of the dentist. If you take care of your teeth well, like brushing and you don't have sensitive gums/teeth, it's okay.

But since I took bad care of my teeth and I had to get 4 teeth taken out for braces, it hurt. I had adult teeth growing behind my baby teeth, that's why. So I doubt they will pull any of your teeth.

Also all they do is "glue" on the brackets and put a machine over your mouth to heat it. Your teeth may feel sore though because of the wire they put on and how they may tighten it. It works well though. My bottom teeth were really messed up and they got straightened in about two weeks.

Make sure to stock up on ice cream though, just in case your teeth are sensitive.

Your orthodontist may be diff than mine, but when I got mine on, it didn't hurt at all. After a while, it was sorta sore, and it was hard to chew food because it would hurt. (That's why you have to eat soft foods, but only for a lil while) It might last for about 1 week or more, but you'll get used to it. If your tooth/some of your teeth are REALLY out of place, there's a possibility that they might pull it out, but it just might mean that you'll need braces for a longer period of time. If you do get braces, make sure to take good care of your teeth! If you have any other questions about braces, feel free to ask, and I'll do my best to try and answer them. :]

Hope this helped!

They don't hurt when getting them on. Afterwards, it will ache for a few days. It will also ache for a few days after each time you get them adjusted but it's honestly nothing to worry about.
If I could, I would have my braces back because I ruined my teeth after not wearing my retainer.
It depends if you have to have teeth out for them. Most people do. I had 2 out.
If you're given the option to get them, I'd go for it!

No, it doesn't hurt when they put them on.
Yes, your mouth may be sore for a few days after.
Take some pain killers (Ibuprofen recommended) and you should be ok.
It shouldn't hurt that much, and if it does, go back
to the orthodontist and ask them to loosen it up.
You should meet with an orthodontist and discuss your questions,
they will tell you if you need to get any baby teeth pulled.
Then if you do, they will send you to an oral surgeon.
(And that's not even that bad)
They will definitely be able to fix teeth that are out of place,
my teeth are very straight, but I have lots of problems
with them being reversed, out of place, not coming up,
so trust me, your teeth are probably fixable.
