My Kitten Isnt Eatten Dry Food

Question Posted Thursday September 20 2007, 7:13 am

My Kitten seems to like wet food better than dry food. My question is how can you get a cat to eat dry food. Because right now with our budget, we cant afford wet food. x.x Any advice?

Put water on the dry food, and it'll become moist and soft enough for kitty to eat.

I just recently got a cat too. it eats its dry food tho. but my question to you is why you own a cat if you cant pay $.38 a can of wet food. a big can ($.38) will last the kitten 2 days. so give it wet food until it eats its dry food.

You really shouldn't soak the food if milk. Milk is not good for cats as they can get sick. They aren't used to the high amount of lactose in cows milk, since their mother's milk doesn't have nearly as much lactose. It's even worse for puppies, so the first person who answered is wrong about that.

It's a good idea to use just plain water in the cats food. Try putting a little bit of water in her hard food and putting it in the microwave for a few seconds. Warming the food will make it tastier to cats.

You could also put half soft food and half hard food down for you cat. After a few days of that, start to increase the amount of hard food and decrease the amount of soft food, so, slowly she's only eating dry food.

Try giving it both wet and dry food like put both wet and dry food in its bowl and it'll most likely start eating it because of the wet food then when you notice that it has aten both the wet and dry food little by little each day remove some of the wet foods and start putting more of the dried food I hope this doesn't sound confusing but yea I hope I helped !

Don't give it cow milk. Cats are lactose intolerant; they get sick if you give them cow milk.

I would just not give it anything but dry food and hope it gets hungry enough to eat it.

You may have gotten your kitten a week or two too early to have been taken from its mother, at least thats usually why in my experience.

Soak the dry food in milk until it gets soggy like cereal, or at least softer. Sometimes they just need the scent of milk, or something a little bit softer for they to get the point :P

You can use water or broth too but I think milk works best. You can do it for puppies too.

If that doesn't work feel free to ask me a question personally :) I have A LOT of experience with kittens.
