Anything by V.C. Andrews. Particularly "Flowers In The Attic" [that one is also a movie, so enjoy the book.. then enjoy the movie]
Anything by Mary Downing Hahn. Particularly "Daphne's Book" and "Jellyfish". Mary Downing Hahn is my favorite author. I do not enjoy reading, to be honest, so if an author can get me to pick up a book.. they must be great, but to have me never be able to put it down says a lot.
Also, if you haven't yet Robert C O'Brien's "Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH", I definitely suggest doing so. It's a classic! All of those in the series [3, I believe] are all wonderful.
But my favorite and most highly recommended novel would be "The Catcher In The Rye", by J.D. Salinger. It may make me seem ridiculous, but that book had a way of changing my perspective on life. I am quite fond of it. [ Mackenzie's advice column | Ask Mackenzie A Question ]
Erinn_the_bamf answered Thursday July 19 2007, 9:30 pm: Personally, I've never been one for the stupid teen girly books where the plot is always the exact same romance again and again. So here are my favorites:
-Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuck. It's not for the faint of heart, though. A model gets shot in the face and travels around with Brandy Alexander, a person one surgery away from being a woman, and her ex-boyfriend, stealing OTC drugs from mansions and selling them. She tries to forget her past and reinvent herself.
-The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom. This is one of the most amazing books I've ever read. A man named Eddie dies trying to save the life of a little girl. When he gets to heaven he learns he will talk to 5 people from his life that have changed it in one way or another.
-For One More Day by Mitch Albom. Charlie's (the main character) life is out of control. He's a raging alcoholic. After learning his own daughter did not invite him to her wedding, he attempts suicide. He jumps off a water tower, however, it does not work. When he wakes up he sees his mother who died 8 years ago. She teaches him about the mysteries of his life. This book shows that no matter what, a mother's love will overcome all.
-The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. Charlie is a 15 year old boy entering his freshman year of highschool. He's quite a peculiar child. He learns about drugs, sex, and most importantly friendship and how to love.
-To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Classic novel. The narroater is a little girl named Scout. The story deals with racism in the south and Scout's father, Atticus's, attempt to prove a man accused of a crime to be innocent.
-Tuesdays with Maury by Mitch Albom. I've never read it, but it's by my favorite author and said to be amazing. Maury is dying (of cancer I believe). He teaches the main character all about life and how to accept sadness. [ Erinn_the_bamf's advice column | Ask Erinn_the_bamf A Question ]

Hollister answered Thursday July 19 2007, 7:15 pm: Im the same age as you and I read the gossip girl series, those are pretty good. I like Harry Potter haha. The series of The Clique is based on girls a little younger than us but they are still good. [ Hollister's advice column | Ask Hollister A Question ]
Shortcake22 answered Thursday July 19 2007, 7:15 pm: I have no idea what kind of books you're into, so sorry if I'm waaaay off on your taste =)
But...
I like anything by Sarah Dessen. She writes wonderful books for teenage girls. This Lullaby and The Truth About Forever are my two favorites.
I also like anything by Augusten Burroughs. He writes funny books, but they are definitely R rated and written for adults. Running With Scissors was good, but I liked Magical Thinking better.
You might be into the Gossip Girl series. Or perhaps The It Girl, Private, The A List, or The Clique. All series that I have read. Good books, kind of trashy and shallow, written for teenagers, but entertaining.
Also, White Oleander is an amazing book. It's more of a serious book, not directed at younger readers, but still really good.
If you like books about more serious issues, you could try Go Ask Alice, Crank, Second Star to the Right, or Cut. Go Ask Alice and Crank are about drug use, Second Star to the Right is about eating disorders, and Cut is about cutting, obviously.
And, if you haven't read it, I highly suggest you read To Kill a Mockingbird. I read it in 8th grade for the first time, and it really did change my life. I love it so much, and even though most books you have to read for school are a drag, this one is really really good.
