Dog

Question Posted Monday July 16 2007, 8:32 am

My aunt was planning to get a dog and I was helping her find one online. But my uncle doesn't like dogs or any kind of animals (and they already had cats). And my aunt really wants a dog.Which she hope she gets. But I need a list of convincing ways to get my uncle to say yes to get the dog. I already told her to tell him,"This is my dog and I got it for myself."

Anyone wants to help my aunt get a dog! :)

Well, I'd reccommend a couple of things.

First of all, find out why he doesn't like dogs. If there are particular reasons (ex: Barking, Sheding, etc) then look for a dog that does not have those attributes/tempermants. Talk it over with your aunt and have her discuss it with your uncle. Keep in mind that if she does get a dog, that it should be friendly with the cat. And decide if she wants a puppy or adult dog. Then, I'd say go down to a shelter or animal rescue center and take a look at the dogs. Make sure she brings her husband. If that doesn't work, why not try fostering a dog for awhile? If he warms up to the idea, then it would be best to get one.

I'd say overall your best bet is to do the foster care first. Tell your aunt I said good luck.=3

There are many quiet, low matinence dogs that your uncle could deal with. Tell your aunt to talk to your uncle and discuss what kind of dog she wants. I think they should both meet halfway with a sweet overall quiet dog. Although if she wants a louder breed she can always de-bark it. Good Luck to your aunt!

do some reaserch! is there a certian reason why your uncle doesnt like dogs? maybe its because thay bark too much? or because of the whole house training fiasco?

talk with your uncle and explain to him that your aunt will take care of the dog. also that it would mean a lot to her if they got one.

sit down wit a bunch of books and your aunt and uncle and go through to them to find a dog they both agree on. if they dont want a dog that barks a lot, get a shih tzu. if they dont want it in the house the whole time, get a dog that is used to the outdoors.

also make sure that they see the dog they want to get a couple of times before they actually buy it.

hope that helped!!!

the "this is my dog and i got it for myself" is really good.

your aunt can tell the uncle that it is her pet and he doesn't even have to pay any attention to it.

She should just buy the dog and trust me.... he will fall in love with the dog.

If it makes you feel better, have your aunt take your uncle on a surprise car ride and take him to an animal shelter or a pet store. Have him look at the dogs and tell him that not only would your aunt appriciate it... but so would the dogs!

Tell your aunt that she should tell him that she will take care of it and now it's her turn to have some fun. ((since he had the cats, she now deserves the dogs))

Wish you the best
