Well, I just got my period a couple of months ago. And like a week ago, I used a tampon. Well, anyway, I had a lot of trouble with it, and it was actually pretty painful. Is it supposed to hurt your first time? %% Thanks %%

To answer your question:
No. Technically it shouldn't hurt, but depending on how you handle pain, it can. It hurt me terribly the first few months. I went through two or three packs of tampons a day trying to get them to fit comfortably and correctly. It's not that they are just flat out hurting you, it's that you aren't putting the tampon in correctly. You can follow those step by step instructions a million times, and it still won't fit right. What you have to do is practice, practice, practice. Buy you a few packs and keep inserting them until it feels right to you. You will feel some pressure in your vagina, and in your lower stomach the first few times you use them. They are in right, it just takes a little getting used to. Keep practicing. Find the right technique that works for your body, and eventually you will be able to correctly and comfortably insert them. [ Melody's advice column | Ask Melody A Question ]

the first time putting in tampons i recomend lights because they are thinner and better for begginers. plastics are also way easier and have a more comfortable application than cardboard ones.
my favorite is playtex sport tampons.

they're so much better than pads.
