Do you think it is safe?

Question Posted Thursday June 21 2007, 5:03 pm

Do you think it is safe if me and my friend both go to NYC together? We're 15 and we live in NJ but it's kinda close & we can get there by bus.

We've gone to NYC like a lot of times but never by ourselves.. & We know how to get around, but it's like.. do you think we will get kidnapped or something? I haven't really heard of that happening & with so many people why would they take us..? But idk, what's your opinion?

Hmm.. I would say get a group together. maybe more than 2 people & plan your activities. i think your parents would be more comfortable letting you go see a show & it at the mcdonalds on the same street then come home than just oh, we're gonna shop & walk around..know what i'm sayin? just go during the day or maybe have parents come into the city but not follow you/go to the same places as you. <3

Since you're 15 and with someone else, I think you would be fine. I know that a 9-y/o flew on an airplane to a different continent by herself lol. Just always have your cell phone on and ready, in case anything bad happens, and call home every hour or so to make sure your parents don't get worried.

I think that if you were in a bigger group it may be better... try inviting a few more friends if either of your parents don't think its safe.

Good luck & keep safe <3

This is one to discuss with your parents. The answer will have to do with if you are mature enough to be in the city on your own. And don't discount predators. A busy city is an ideal place to take a child. With people yelling and scuffling everywhere, cars on the streets, horns blowing, who's going to notice two young girls being taken from a crowd? Or, if they notice, will they want to get involved (Recall the '64 Kitty Genovese case)?
It is good that you know your way around, but do you know how to handle an emergency?

In my opinion, I'd say go for it! As long as your folks are ok with it, I'd do it. If someone happens to follow you and your friend, just hide in a crowd. There's a .5% out of 100% that someone will be interested in kidnapping or aomehting. All in all, I think it's totally safe for you and your friend to have fun in NYC! Hope this helped!

I hope you have your parents permission to go. YOu don't want to end up missing, and then they have no idea that you are even in NYC. Most important too. You need a lot of money, because everything in NYC is soooo expensive. You wouldn't want to take the subway, so you'll need money for a cab if where you want to go is very far. Why not take a bus trip to the Bronx Zoo instead. It's just one place. There's plenty to do and see, and when your done, you take the bus home. If you do go to NYC stick to the more expensive neighborhoods, around central park.
Either way, have a great time

Michele

If your parents are okay with it, I'm surmising it would be fine. Kidnappers usually try to, um, steal i guess, people who are totally alone. So you guys have to stay together, especially in bathrooms, (unless it's one with only one toilet lol)
And it's good that you know your way around. That's a definite plus so you and your friend will be ok. And if you are second guessing, bring along another friend. the more the merrier.

hope i helped =^)
