You are moving at 9.81 m/s^2 all the time because of gravity.
If the elevator is speeding up and you jump then it will be longer and hurt you more.
Regardless of what you do in a crashing elevator you will get hurt. Sucks doesn't it?

No way Jose.

If you are stuck in a falling elevator (which is, by the way, amazingly unlikely, there are on average, 5 to 7 safeties in place to keep an elevator from falling) the only thing you can really do is make your peace with your creator. If you are falling at terminal velocity, even if you managed to time it perfectly, you just can’t jump with enough force. Period. It’s just a matter of physics.

The most recommended method for surviving a falling elevator (thank you worse case Survival Guide) is to lie down on the floor and cover your head. That way the impact is distributed over your whole body.

No. It's not just the elevator that's falling, you are too. When you jump, you're just moving away from the elevator; you're still falling. It would be much safer to lie down on the floor of the elevator, since you'd have more surface area to distribute the g-forces(you probably wouldn't have time to do this, though). Elevators have a whole bunch of safety mechanisms that prevent you from falling, so don't worry about it.

No, that isn't true. Jumping will not prevent you from being hurt in a falling elevator. Imagine being dropped of a building in a cardboard box... That's pretty much what a falling elevator is like. Jupming won't help. But don't worry, they won't fall just because they break down-- they are on cables.

Actually, no. When you jump, it's moving down, then you hit your head against the ceiling. Haha, it happened to my uncle.
:]
Hope I Helped!!
