I'm a teenage girl who is about 20 pounds overweight (5'2 1/4" and 154 lbs) and I always wear one pieces but I'm going to a resort in a few days and I would really like to try wearing a bikini because I feel liek I actually look better in one because it shows off these feminine curves that I have better.
Do you think people would stare at me because I'm not thin? (i do have the hourglass body type) When I sit down my stomach sort of has these rolls and it hangs over my waist... So that makes me uncomfortable...
I just don't know what to do. I don't want to be gawked at...
Also- what kind/color of a bikini should I get that will make me look thinner?
orphans answered Wednesday May 30 2007, 8:01 pm: dont worry about people staring. most of the time, we notice our own flaws more than others do. try to get a bikini in a neutral solid. or if you have a flair for color, go for one with a wild print to draw attention away from problem areas. hope i helped! NinjaNeer answered Wednesday May 30 2007, 4:14 pm: Sounds like you're about the same build I am (only I'm taller).
I love wearing bikinis, even though I don't look like a supermodel.
You've got to be really careful if you're a busty girl like me. For tops, look for halters with thick straps that tie up. Not the tiny string ones, because those don't give the girls enough support.
As for bottoms, try to avoid the ones that look like shorts. And don't do skirts, or you'll look like you've got something to hide. If you've got a little roll, wear one that comes up a little higher; none of these low-cut ones are really flattering that way. [ NinjaNeer's advice column | Ask NinjaNeer A Question ]

I don't think you're overweight I think your just right.
LoveNJstyle answered Wednesday May 30 2007, 3:02 pm: they won't stare at you... i've seen all kinds of people wear bikinis. i used to wear only one pieces and they just squished my boobs down and made me look shapeless. as for rolls, most teenage girls have some kind of fat there that they are not happy with. when you sit, have a towel around you and when you layout, bend your knees a little so took leaner.
the color doesn't really matter... just get something that fits you well... doesnt pinch looks unflattering. if you have a big bust, look some a supportive top. if you need anything else, let me know. <3 [ LoveNJstyle's advice column | Ask LoveNJstyle A Question ]
toriiii answered Wednesday May 30 2007, 2:53 pm: no they shouldnt stare at you& actaully if you have curves thats not a bad thing most guys like that. i dont think you are overweight either but it depends on how you feel with your body. but people should also understand that you are a teen so your body is still growing and changing. dont worry about the stomach thing mine does that all the time too. and if you are gawked at still ask them what they are looking at =) and a good bikini color would be maybe black or a darker color. good luck& have fun! EasyPeasy answered Wednesday May 30 2007, 2:04 pm: I wouldn't think this will be a problem!
For bigger bodies, the key is balance. Comfortable coverage. Go for wide straps and a wider bottom.
Definitely choose a color that compliments your skin tone. There are a few guides on the internet that help you with this. If you choose the wrong color, it will only draw attention to the things you don't to draw attention to. :) If you're bigger on the bottom, go for plain bottoms and a patterned or detailed top, and vice versa. Try to add volume to your suit, maybe with some ruffles or a big funky print!
No one will notice that you are a little uncomfortable, if you can just enjoy yourself and show off who you are. With a smile, too. :) [ EasyPeasy's advice column | Ask EasyPeasy A Question ]
ANG answered Wednesday May 30 2007, 1:23 pm: A halter with a band underneath it would be a good top. For bottoms make sure it's full coverage in the back and not too low in the front. As for color, go with a dark color. Black is always slimming. I don't think people would stare at you. As long as you go for the right suit there should be no reason to stare. At least, not for your weight but for how good your body looks in the right suit. [ ANG's advice column | Ask ANG A Question ]
