I have the website [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) , which offers free web design. I get a decent amount of hits, but very few requests for web design. If you were looking for free web design, is there anything on my site that would turn you away from it? Of particular interest is my request form, [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) , which seems to be a popular exit point; is there anything unappealing with the form? Thanks much,

I'm giving you a few notes here on how to make your website more appealing. You really want to keep the visitor's attention= if they get bored, they will leave. Here goes=
-You have this futuristic layout and logo, but then this old fashioned font. Appears to be Times New Roman. (Try Arial? Anything more modern and simple.)
-Everything is pushed up towards the top of the screen, so I have to actually bother to really look up to see everything. Perhaps move everything down into the middle of the screen.
-Nothing to look at, to direct your eyes to. You have a pretty cool logo, so why not add a picture to your webpage!? The visitor doesn't like to be bored.
-Keep your menu bar simpler= simpler titles, I wasn't exactly sure what I was reading and directing myself to. (Also, include that funky logo on the home page on every page, for a nice sense of repetition.)
-Examples of your web design work. Show off your design skills, so clients know what they're getting!
-Finally, speak (type, I guess) on your website with more... flair. Use colorful exciting, important vocab. like you're trying to entertain the reader!

I think that you should also make it a little more comprehensive for the people who aren't experienced with computers. Why do you need their e-mail? What do they do once they're done setting up the page? I think you have a great start. [ Helpful's advice column | Ask Helpful A Question ]
ammo answered Friday May 11 2007, 12:47 pm: One immediate downside I noticed was the font colour - it's a little dark especially on the black background. Just a suggestion that a slightly lighter colour might be kinder on the eyes.
I think the form looked okay but you may want to give more detailed information on what people need to do when it comes to having you design their site for them. Have to bare in mind many people who use your service will be those who are new to HTML and web design and such so would prefer things kept basic.
Other than that I think it looks fine. It may just be people who are curious who left at the form page - chances are the number of hits you get compared with the number of people requesting sites will increase. :] [ ammo's advice column | Ask ammo A Question ]
orphans answered Friday May 11 2007, 12:21 pm: It's just black and grey. It needs more color, but not too much. Really, you have to strain your eyes and it gives you a weird feeling, like lonely and unhappy. Maybe black/gray background, but font white and one other color. Like some kind of a blue, maybe? The form looks good to me, but yet again, it's the dark font and creepy background. Hope I helped.
Oh, and let me add. You should have a choice on the form: people that are good with HTML, and people that want it basic. Because, some people might want to just have a few questions and get it easy. But people like me, would like to have it where I can choose every color and font and everything. You know? [ orphans's advice column | Ask orphans A Question ]
