Religion?!?!

Question Posted Sunday May 6 2007, 12:16 am

I dont know which religion to go with. I dont like christianity because alot of the people around here are fake and they just pretend like they are really good. I know some of you arent going to like me for saying that, but whatever. I dont believe in god. I mean, I believe that there was a man named Jesus and he was a great guy and everything, he helped the poor, and all that. But I dont believe he was sent down from god and all that magical stuff. I just think that the best thing is to love one another and be nice and kind and tolerant. I dont believe in heaven or hell, they were both made up to scare people. And i dont understand why people say god is so forgiving, he will forgive you of your sins and whatever, but then everyone says that bad people are sent to hell. Why doesn't god forgive them?!?! So those I believe were just made up to scare people, "you wont get into heaven if you do this, youll go to hell if you do that." So basically does anyone know of a religion or faith? I just want one that is tolerant of all other religions and one that focuses more on the future than on the past. Supports the wellness of the world and its people and one thats not based all on money. Preferrably one thats liberal, democratic. Oh yeah I have already seen Buddhism and thought about that one... so anything other than that would be great!!! thank you so much, sorry its long

ok if your going to be athesit think first. If there was no god there would be no athests rite?!ok imma tell you a lil bit about islam.Muslims beilive in God is the creator of the universe and he has no son or anyone to help him create the world.Prophet mohamed was gods messenger that came down to people with the holy quran the book that has all the beilifes of islam.Heaven and Hell are real and God is forgiving. He forgives people if the do bad things but sometimes people just keep doing that bad thing over and over again so god doesnt forgive them because they know what they did was wrong and still continue to do it.Islam is all about forgiving others, not lying, being honest, giving money to the poor, praying to god 5 times a day to thank him for all the blessings he gave us.Prophet mohamed went thru alot to male islam spread through the world. There was this story we had in the quran that said that when prophet mohamed would pray one of his enemys would come and throw garbage around him and the prophet would just continue praying and not curse at the guy or do anything, the guy would do this everyday till one day the guy didnt come. The prophet goes asking where he is and found outhe was sick.can you imagine that the prophet actually visitied the guy and asked him"i heard you were sick so i came to visit you and see if you need something,i noticed you didnt come and throw the garbage around me"The guy was in shock and cried and was like so this is the true meaning of islam and converted because of how amazing islam is.We beilive that there is a day of judgment where everyone gets judged for their actions.EVERY single thing you do gets written down by the angels.Do you think that some things that happen in life are actually forgotten and let go of?nope!like if someone as much as curses at another person, thats written down and youll be judged for it at the day of judgment. That is the day where everyone thats dead awakens to be judged by god and youll either go to hell or heaven. If you dont agree with this use your mind, what actually happens to people when they die? They wont actually stay that way forever, where do they go after?islam has all the answers to that.In our religion we beilive in all the prophets and respect all other religions.Muslim women wear a scarf around their head as a sign of modest and dont expose their bodies to men unless theyre married.Muslims are suppoesd to stay virgins till marriage because god wants no problems to happen,no diseases and no bad reputation among people. If you have any more questions ask me in my inbox, this is just an introduction

You sound like a really nice person and I think that much of your confusion is rooted in the fact that you want the best for others. You should be proud of yourself; this is a great quality!

I have also had the same problem. My parents are Christians, and as a result I was raised that way. I questioned a lot of Christianity, and the best advice I can say is to do whatever you feel. No one can make you believe something.

I know of a few religions that I think you might like looking into. Pagan religions are often good. Wicca is a religion that is accepting in everything-- religion, gender, homosexuality, you name it, and they generally accept it. It is a nature-based religion that supports the earth and the well-being of all people. The belief in the afterlife varies from person to person, so some Wiccans believe in reincarnation, others believe there is nothing, others believe other things. You don't seem to like the idea of hell and the devil, do you? :) Well in Wicca there is no devil.

Good luck, and remember to look a the religion (Christianity) itself, and not the people who claim to be good Christians. If after you do this you find that it is not the path for you, then be proud that you cared to look at all of your options.

mylordone is a fool.

You know what if you don't wanna believe in any religion, go for it. If there is only one god or power up there than it shouldn't matter what religion you are. Personally I am Agnostic (one who believes in a form of higher power but does not conform with todays religions because they suck) And if you absolutely HAVE to be in a religion then I guess you should go with Buddhism because they are the most tolerant and aren't assholes like Christians.

You said, "I dont like christianity because alot of the people around here are fake and they just pretend like they are really good."

I don't know these people you are referring to and I won't pass judgment either way, but Christianity in and of itself is about a relationship with the one true God through His Son Jesus. There are MANY people who title themselves as a Christian but don't have a clue about what being a Christian really is. So before you just write off Christianity in general, I strongly suggest researching for yourself and don't go according to the actions of other people.

You said, "I just think that the best thing is to love one another and be nice and kind and tolerant."

That all sounds wonderful, but it's all relative. Let's take "love one another". What is loving one another? You want to hang out with a certain crowd that has a reputation of drinking, drugs and whatever. Are your parents loving you if they let you run around with a bad crowd? Or is your best friend loving you if she turns her back and says nothing if you wanted to try drugs? Maybe she is influencing you to do drugs. Is that love? You want to be "nice" and "tolerate" so do you give in to her? Walk away? I could probably come up with several examples, but the point is, it's not based on any standard.

Christianity is based on the standard of the bible; God's Word. It's true, whether you believe it or not, and God does exist.

You said,"I dont believe in heaven or hell, they were both made up to scare people."

What do you base that belief on? Not saying you do, but most people who believe that heaven and hell are made up, believe that because they are scared it may be true. And they know in their heart where they are headed.

You said, "And i dont understand why people say god is so forgiving, he will forgive you of your sins and whatever, but then everyone says that bad people are sent to hell. Why doesn't god forgive them?!?!"

God created a perfect world and gave people a free will to make choices. He wants people to CHOOSE Him. When the first people, Adam and Eve, chose to listen to the devil and disobey God, they separated themselves from God. Their sin divided them from that relationship with God Almighty; a perfect and Holy God. When sin entered the world so did death. Now everything dies. But God loves people so much that He sent Jesus to pay for our sins and there is now a way to be reconciled to God. Every person's soul will live forever. It's up to each individual to choose to live reconciled to the Creator or not. Not everyone accepts God's gift of forgiveness and those who don't will be in hell when they die. So to answer you question, God's forgiveness is AVAILABLE to everyone, but rejected by many. Those who reject God, will be be in hell.

You seem to be in a place of seeking and that it good, but seek to discover truth. Don't settle for what "feels good". Feelings come and go, but truth is forever. My prayer for you is that your heart will only find peace when the truth of God's Word pierces it.

The idea of god being forgiving is that you atone for your sins.

That said...

Take a look at [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) and [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) . In the wikipedia link, be aware that all abrahamic religions believe in a god, dharmic religions believe in the law, and taoic religions believe in the way. You don't absolutely need a religion, you can just live with whatever your outlook on life is. Don't take those "which religion is right for me" tests, and don't worry about eternal damnation.

Unitarian Universalism is a good one for people that don't believe in anything, but want the same community a religion provides.

Hmph. I hate to answer this question. I've been trying to keep high ratings, but I'll have to just face it for this one. Lemme just say, how do you think we got here? If there's no God, then how do our bodies work? I believe: God's real. I know that it's doubtful and hard to believe, but it's FAITH. God designed us to have faith, but others stray and don't believe. So, when time comes for you to go to Heaven or Hell... you're gonna wanna go to Heaven. All it takes is faith. Yes, I understand what you're saying about all of the fake Christians. That doesn't mean that you have to be like that. I don't even go to church. I just live off of my Bible. It's got all the answers. I don't believe in any other religions, and I don't like to talk about them. So I'm sorry that my answer isn't good enough for you, I'm just trying to serve the Lord.

And let me add. What you described, sounds perfect. And I'm an extreme doubter, and I would believe what you said. I mean, God. In the sky? What the... It's kind of, eh. But it's not all about religion- it's about faith. Just believe in something. Something realistic.
