so my friend wants me to get help. i guess i may just need help. i just stopped cutting about a few weeks ago, because my mother found out. I have family issues, like my father. i used to hate the world. sometimes i feel all depressed because of my family.. i dont know, advice?

Hi, thanks for writing! Congrats on not cutting for a few weeks. That is a big step. Great job!

About your question, I also used to cut, so maybe I can help. If you feel the urge to cut, just think that it won't be worth the scars you have later. Because when the emotional pain is gone, your scars will still be there, reminding you of the pain. And they also aren't the most beautiful things to look at in the world, right? If you really feel like you need to hurt yourself, use an icecube. Take one and hold it in your hand until it melts. This provides pain without leaving a scar.

As far as professional help goes, since you were able to stop for a while now, I don't think it is needed unless the need to cut gets worse, or if you keep going back to cutting.

Hey. Well, no. You don't need help if you think that you can stop. I do it too, but I'm trying to stop. If you find that cutting is the only way you can get any relief, and you do it again, get help, please. Because I've come to realize that it helps nothing in the long run, but everything at the time. Stay strong, trust me I know it's not easy to stop. If you need someone to talk to, I'm here, I can relate. But remember, it is a bad habbit, and if you find you can't stop then I would tell a guidance counselor or a parent to get you a therapist and possibly medication for depression. Remember, I'm always here! :].

hey girl i have never done it but i have a friend who i helpped geet over it...its not a good thing to hurt yourself...youjust need to find that one person you can tell anything and everything to so u can open up and let your feelings out just talk to them and make asure the person wont get mad at you and can be there for you 24 hours so anytime you want to talk you can...when you feel like doing it call umm and they talk you out of it...if you really need someone tio talk to my phone on 24 hours and i answer but let me no if you have Aol im me (frisbeegolfreak) Good luck and i hope you can be happy!! okay ive been there. its been four years of cutting. im so sick of it but i love it at the same time. its been a week and four days since i last cut and belive me thats like a milestone.

It's important to find ways to soothe or focus yourself when you feel like self-injuring. Make a list of non-harmful things that help you feel relaxed and real, like playing a sport, meditating, drawing, or playing an instrument. Keep this list where you can see it so when you feel like hurting yourself you will have other options and you can choose to do something else.



Here are some ways to use up nervous energy:

* go for a long walk
* dance to loud music
* shoot hoops or kick soccer goals
* go jogging
* clean your room

Here are some ways to relax and de-stress:

* take a bath or a hot shower
* listen to music
* write in a journal
* talk to a friend
* read a good book

Many teens find that keeping busy and spending time with good friends and family helps the most.

i used to cut... i did it cuz of family issues too... what i did to stop was wear rubberbands or hair ties on your wrist, whenever you get the impulse to cut snap the rubberband... it doesn't leave scars and i'm pretty sure it's concidered healty... so try it... hope it works for you ^_^ i hope things get better, really

All I can say is this: you are worth it. I don't know what problems there are in your family, but I know that there is someone who would give their life for you. You are loved, and you are worth being loved. What will help you to feel better is to strengthen your faith. Faith in your friends, in a higher being... whatever works. You are a special person, and there are things that you can do that no one else can. You are worth it.
