Also, according to Feng Shui, cetrian plants in certian areas of your room help with certian blessings. For example, fresh flowers bring luck and fortune in your home.
If the people who are telling you that having a plant in your room is healthy are into Feng Shui, they are probably talking about positioning certian plants in certian areas of your room. However, if you are not into Feng Shui, then it's still pretty bennificial to have a plant in your room. Just be sure to take care of it properly. No one likes to see dead plants, it subconciously makes people feel not-so-happy. Do some research into what kind of a plant you want. Some plants are poisonous to cats and dogs, some take a lot of care and up keep, and some require little attention(just a watering here or there). Find what's best for you. uisforukelele answered Tuesday April 3 2007, 9:48 pm: they give off oxygen... probably not enough to make a difference, but i think it's a psychological thing too. people generally like plants. plus, they're nice to look at. [ uisforukelele's advice column | Ask uisforukelele A Question ]
theymos answered Tuesday April 3 2007, 9:22 pm: Plants produce a very small amount of oxygen, it's never enough to affect your health. More oxygen doesn't affect people much anyways, the atmosphere is 20% oxygen, breathing 40% isn't going to do anything for you; you won't even notice it. What would be useful is if the plant filtered the air, but it doesn't, it just produces a small amount of oxygen. Plants *are* psychologically good for you, though, they reduce stress. not_your_star34 answered Tuesday April 3 2007, 9:14 pm: Well, since plants go through photosynthesis, yes, it's true. You inhale oxygen, and you exhale carbon dioxide. The plant can (through photosynthesis) "convert" the carbon dioxide you exhaled to oxygen, making the air quality better for you.
Just make sure to keep it in the sun and water it regularly. =]

yes. plants let out oxygen & help you breathe better, especially during the wintertime when you can't get fresh air because you can't open your windows.
