and any suggestions on how to make it look like your mouth isnt bleeding metal when you smile., if you know what i mean.
junebug93 answered Friday March 9 2007, 9:59 pm: It takes a few weeks to feel semi normal, and over time you won'tbe able to imaginea mouth without them. Good foods to eat, while your mouth is still sensitive, are soft foods and foods that do not require you biting down on something large (ei, remember that burger king commercial with the guy who yanks out his teeth to fit the burger in? not that). I recommend soup, yogurt, pudding, scrambled eggs, that kindof thing. As you get used to braces you will be able to eat anything you want, although the orthodontists will try to keep you away from certain foods, and ideally you will listen, though no one ever does and I don't think it mkes any prticulr difference in what you eat. Until they get tightened, anyway... this happens about once a month and you'll be back to the soft foods for a bit.
I had some trouble with the bleeding smile. My main advice is use lots of wax (they give you it in your braces kits, and you can buy it in drugstores), and make sure you have no wires sticking out once they are attached (this hppened to me and it was not pretty). Orthodontists usually have this machine that saws away at edges of things...well dulls edges anyway, and you can suggest they use this on anything else that is sticking out particularly much.
Yup, braces are annoying (and you will hve to brush your teeth way more to keep your teeth pearly white), but soon you'll get used to them and they'll just be part of life, like anything else. [ junebug93's advice column | Ask junebug93 A Question ]
xcheerbabex108 answered Friday March 9 2007, 9:50 pm: For me it took about a week or two to get used to them, and that's when I was actually able to eat solid foods. But, however your tolerance for pain may be different than mine. Now, if you've ever heard of the "braces diet", that's basically what you need to follow. For example, don't eat pizza like, the second day you have them. Just stay away from foods such as crunchy foods, sticky foods, and very solid foods.
And you could always smile without showing your teeth, but I'm pretty sure most people will understand, because one, braces aren't easy, and two, most people have all had them.
Bbeautifulbby555 answered Friday March 9 2007, 9:47 pm: I got used to mine in like 2 weeks. At first I couldn't even bit a piece of bread, it felt awful, but it gets fine. Eventually I didn't even realize I had them anymore (not that i had them for long) but what was annoying and which you should watch out for is, getting your lips stuck on your braces. My lips were constantly getting cut and it hurt, so watch out for that. :) And dont worry about the "bleeding metal" braces are 'in' now. I'm not sure why, but they dont look that bad anymore, so if that doesn't even look bad, just wait until you get them off, you'll be gorgeous.. or handsome. lol. And yes they are even fine for guys too, so don't worry about the brace face thing or any of that stuff, because it doesn't happen. Good luck and if you need anything else ask me. asktatianna answered Friday March 9 2007, 9:34 pm: dear braces=o,
i think a month or two is when you'll get use to it.you should eat soft foods that cant get stuck in your braces like mash patatoes if you think that your braces is going to be a prblem then have a small smile or smile with your mouth closed.
orphans answered Friday March 9 2007, 8:27 pm: give it like a week.
trust me, i've had mine since 5th grade.. and now i'm in 9th. UGH!!
just KEEP THEM BRUSHED, or it's horrible to recover them, that's what i'm going through! i don't want to scare you, but it's pretty bad if you don't brush them regularly.
disasterxwoah answered Friday March 9 2007, 6:59 pm: Ah, I had braces for 3 years, I know just what you mean. It took me about 2 weeks for my braces to feel normal. Longish time, but thats how it was for me. Everyones different. I ate soft foods at first. I admit it I was scared to eat something hard. I hate things like : jello, soup, pancakes, ice cream, bread & foods like that. I didn't bite into the foods like bread. I would wrip of the pieces.. until I was comfortable with the braces.

& about the smile... Im a dork :) and I praticed smiles. Your mouth wont look like its full of metal to other people, it's prally just your own mind. Yeah stupid idea, but I say pratice smiles. You'll find one you like & if you have a dorkie smile its okay :) Laugh it off, lifes to short to worry about a smile :))

Shortcake22 answered Friday March 9 2007, 5:21 pm: Everyone is different, it could take you anywhere from a few days to a little over a week to get used to them.
Good foods to eat when they hurt- Spagetti, pasta, ice cream, jello, anything else soft that you don't have to chew a lot.
Please, never eat cheetos when you don't want a bunch of stuff in your braces. It gets orange all over your brackets and if you can't brush your teeth, it's pretty hard to get off.
You will get used to your smile soon. Don't worry about it, a lot of people have braces, and it doesn't look as bad as you think.
advicecutie22 answered Friday March 9 2007, 5:17 pm: It takes about a week for them to feel normal. Try eating soft foods and stuff that a lot of chewing isn't invlolved cuz' it's really hard to get your lips over the braces at first.
As for making your smile look better, there isn't really anyway. It will look normal in a couple days it just takes a little getting used to.
GOOD LUCK
