Dreadlocks - my latest 'craving', you could say. There's this girl in my uni who has it and it looks amazing on her.
I was just wondering how it's done...I know someone who'll do it and stuff but I wanna know how. Also, will I be able to wash my hair? And after how long will it start to get all loose and weird? And are there any negative consequences (like the 1.5 million different fleas found in Bob Marley's hair)?...
I admit I'm a hygiene freak (must wash my hair before 24 hours are over between each wash)and I just want to make sure I won't do something I will regret.
Also, some people said that you just don't wash it and you frizz it...
not true either.
my guy friend tried this and all he got were these matts. Like, if youve ever seen a matted dog? that's what he looked like.
It's a pretty detailed procedure. I can't tell you exactly how to go about doing them, but i know that basically you separate small pievess of hair, a little less thick than you want your dreds, and you twist them. then, you rub your fingers up and down them. you can get them done, too.
and if you do them right and get them relatively thin, then theyre not that unhygenic. You can still be a clean freak everywhere else, and ill admit theyll be dirty, but theyre not going to be full of bugs like the one person said.

Synthetic dreads come in all types of materials from snake pipe, real hair, plastic, etc, etc, etc. They are easy to put in and you can still wash your scalp without ruining the do. And, they also have Dread falls...that you put in over you're hair that has been tied up. Here are a few sites. I think think this would be a lot better than dreading your own hair seeing as if you do that and keep them for a long period they have to be cut out. Contact me if you'd like to get synthetic dreads at a cheaper price. I have friends who make them :-)
Depressed_Poet answered Tuesday March 6 2007, 6:04 pm: To get dreadlocks what you have to do is this:
NEVER wash your hair
When you get up in the morning try to knot your hair over and over and make it frizzy
Every day the same stuff and it's pretty gross so if you're a hygeine freak I advise you not to do it.
But if you ever change your mind once you get to a certain point you can NEVER change it! So make sure it would look good on YOU too!

vivalajam0x answered Tuesday March 6 2007, 2:55 pm: Eeek. I'm sorry, but dreadlocks are not for you if you want to stay clean. They're gross because you can't wash them.
sizzlinmandolin answered Tuesday March 6 2007, 2:07 pm: If you are a hygiene freak, dreadlocks are not for you. If you take care of them they're not dirty or full of bugs, but actually getting them is a different story. You can't wash your hair very much for a long time and you can't brush it. It looks really bad in the transition period and once you have them...they're permanant. You'll basically have to shave your head to get rid of them. If you're not 100% positive that this is what you want, don't do it. You will regret it at some point, guaranteed. If this is something you really want to do though, talk to a professional about it. Good luck! [ sizzlinmandolin's advice column | Ask sizzlinmandolin A Question ]
