smokedank123 answered Monday February 5 2007, 8:20 pm: Yes, you can have sex without a condom and not get prego. Although, I see alot of people on here say that you have to wait 1 month on birth control before it works. This may be true for some types of birth control, but mine was effective after one week (told by doctor). You would want to ask your doctor when the birth control takes effect. Some birth controls you completely stop your period, and others you have it once a month. It all depends, and there are many types of birth control out there such as the regualar pill or a shot. You would want to consult your doctor and pick the best one for you. [ smokedank123's advice column | Ask smokedank123 A Question ]
Melody answered Monday February 5 2007, 7:13 pm: I'm on the pill. So all my advice is based on my experiences with the pill and what I know about it. My advice may not be accurate for the patch, female condom, etc.
You can have sex without a condom and still be protected from pregnancy AFTER you've been taking the pill for at least 1 month. And whether or not you have a period at all completely depends on what kind of birth control you get put on. With some BC, you may have a regular period, a period once every 3 months, or with others, no period at all. It all depends. [ Melody's advice column | Ask Melody A Question ]
TheySayImNothing answered Monday February 5 2007, 5:48 pm: Like any method of birth control you use whether it be the pill or a condom, etc..there is always a chance of getting pregnant. I know this because of friends who have gotten pregnant while takin the pill. If you take the pill as you are supposed to the chances of it happening are less likely. But if you absolutely don't want there to be a possibility either use a condom or don't have sex. And as for still getting your period the answer is yes for the most part. There are many pills where you have 3 weeks of active pills which stops it and one week of pills where you will have your period. Another kind of pill (which I am on) is Loestrin 24FE. There is 3 1/2 weeks of active pills and only 4 of the other ones. On those last 4 is when you'll have your period. If you want more information in Loestrin 24FE try this site: www.shorterperiod.com I am pretty sure thats the site. And another type of pill is Seasonale which you only get your period I believe four times a year.
This is what I can give you for help and other questions you have you should as the doctor. And you can research it through google or something. Some things you might want to talk to your doctor about are the different forms of birth control you could use. Because there are many forms such as the pill, the shot, the patch, the ring, and others that doctors insert in you that stay there for lenghty amounts of time.
Hope I helped =)
And good luck [ TheySayImNothing's advice column | Ask TheySayImNothing A Question ]
blwinteler answered Monday February 5 2007, 5:36 pm: While on the pill, if you take it EXACTLY as directed, you are mostly safe from pregnancy. No birth control method is 100% effective, short of abstinence or hysterectomy. But the pill is very effective when used correctly.
As for getting your period, it depends on what pill you take and how you take it. If you are on something like Seasonale, you will get your period once every three months. What you don't usually get told is that any birth control pill can be taken like Seasonale.
Here is how they typically work:
You have 4 weeks of pills in a pack. The first 3 weeks have hormones. Some pills have one level of hormones throughout the cycle, some have 3. What you get depends on what your doctor thinks you need. The 4th week is placebos, sugar pills. These have no hormones. You get your period at this time. If you don't want your period, you skip the 4th week and go right into the next pack. You may get some spotting, but you shouldn't get your period. Talk to your doctor if this is how you want to do it.
If you don't want your period at all, and you don't like taking pills, talk to your doctor about Depo Provera. It is a shot you get monthly. You won't get your period, you won't take pills. But you have to make sure you get your shot on time every month. If you are a little late, you could get pregnant.
I don't know much about the patch, other than it is also hormonal. I think you could use it to skip a period in the same way as the pill. However, I have heard that the patch isn't as safe to use as the pill. I don't know for certain.
Now, as you said, having both the pill and condoms is ideal. Unless you are monogamous and you both have been tested for STDs, you should be using condoms as well. [ blwinteler's advice column | Ask blwinteler A Question ]
amygwendoline answered Monday February 5 2007, 5:34 pm: Hey. :]
While you're on the pill you can have sex without a condom of course, but it's not 100% safe. I've never done it, and I won't do it. My sister got pregnant, she was on the pill - used a condom & took the morning after pill. So, I don't want to risk it.
You do still have your period. And your period will become more regular. Like it'll come exactly in 28 days or however many days. You can get a pill that will shorten your periods, but I don't think there's any that would make your period completely stop.
