Teza answered Monday January 22 2007, 10:48 pm: I had the same problem so now I just use 2 different ones. First I use the Cover Girl [ purple tube ] It gets my eyelashes long and they seperate. Then I use a heavier coat of mascara and slowly go over it and it doesn't clump & they become thicker and fuller. Also when you apply it, make sure that you don't put too many coats at the same time and just do it slowly. [ Teza's advice column | Ask Teza A Question ]
raebaby answered Monday January 22 2007, 10:04 pm: actually, if you get a mascara that has a lengthener(white) and a volumizer(black) in one tube, it clumps less. also if you put on some powder foundation in between coats of mascara. it sounds weird but it does the trick. LM answered Monday January 22 2007, 9:49 pm: If you apply a few layers quickly, before they dry, your lashes get thicker without clumping so much.
I've also heard that soaking the mascara in hot water before you put it on (like, put the whole container in a cup of water) will make the mascara smoother.
Also, mascara is pretty much mascara. Unless you're allergic to a certain ingredient, there's little to no advantage to $35 department store mascara over $2 NYC drugstore mascara. What matters most is replacing it regularly.. every 3-5 months is best. Or whenever you notice it's starting too look and/or smell funky. Trust me, the little bit of mascara you throw away isn't worth getting an eye infection. Seriously, you don't want that.
Lastly, practice makes perfect. I'm not saying put on masacara sixteen times a day and take it off... but over time, you'll get a more steady hand & be more confident with it, figure out what angles of application work for you, etc.
Daimeera answered Monday January 22 2007, 9:41 pm: If you buy an eyelash comb (or even use a clean wand from an older mascara), you can run it through your lashes after you apply the mascara and remove the clumps. It doesn't really stop it from clumping in the first place, but if none of the other advice helps, that might be a last resort. Worked for me! [ Daimeera's advice column | Ask Daimeera A Question ]
