Basically it is just when you feel like hooking up with someone and there is no committment or strings attached. You just hook up whenever you feel like it and you both can hook up with other people. You are just friends.

Friends w/ benefits is like say your a girl and you have a best friend who's a boy. You're not going out with this boy but you may occasionally make out or even hook up with them. It's like you use each other to release sexual tension even though there's no commitment. Boy's tend to like the idea of friends w/ benefits more than girls do.
