Bingeing

Question Posted Monday January 15 2007, 5:25 pm

when i get home from school at 230, all i can think about is eating. i regularly eat a bagel and drink a glass of orange juice for breakfast, and i have a balanced lunch. i know im not hungry when i get home, but i make myself feel like if i eat something its not a big deal. but when i do, i just wanna cry cuz i feel so bad about it. there have been a few days where im been able to not eat until dinner, and when i do i'm so proud. what could i do to make me get my mind off eating?! :[

Youu don't need to worry about this bigtime. It's actually better for you to eat a few snacks during the day, as long as they are healthy. If you think that you are eating because you are bored, try taking a walk or chewing some gum instead of eating. Then you will be distracted. But if you are hungry, it's okay to eat something, like fruit or toast, to tie you over until dinner. Good luck!

Go ahead and eat something - a single serving of baked potato chips or a piece of fruit or something. Bingeing is not just snacking or eating when you're bored. It's eating way too much at one sitting until you're uncomfortable and feeling guilty. What you have written isn't convincing for an eating disorder, just for anxiety relating to food. We all eat things we shouldn't and then have guilt. We all have times when we eat because we want to, not because we're hungry. Take control of the situation and eat things that are good for you and eat reasonable portions. Examine why you are eating if you're not hungry and deal with that. Are you eating because you're tired? Bored? Work on those issues.

THE SECOND you get home, do ALL your homework. mine usually carries me for maybe 2 hours. Then if you take a shower at night do that. If there's still time until dinner, read, or go online. TV isn't good, because there's lots of commercials with food. hope this helps!

You sound so much like me. I have a glass of OJ in the morning, and then lunch and dinner. But I always used to eat when I got off the bus at 4:30. The best thing to do to keep your mind off of this is to maybe find a hobbie. Instead of eating, work out. Go outside, get on the internet, watch TV, play cards with your family (It's funner than you think.) Just, pre-occupy yourself to keep your mind off it. But if you are SUPER hungry, just get a piece sandwhich everyday when you get home for a week and then gradually get a half a sandwhich, then gradually work your way to nothing until dinner. That helps too.

Hope I have helped. :)

try doing something that will keep your mind ocupied (sorry, bad spelling), i use video games if i'm having a bad craving for chocolate (i stopped eating chocolate, chips, pop, and candy for three years now) and i found that it worked quite well. or if you really can't get your mind off of it, eat and then do some crunches or pushup's. then you can still eat, but you are working if off, so you don't have to feel bad! i can also get my mind off food by blasting music in my ears, find a cd you really like and play it, sing along, befor you know it, you won't be thinking of food!

i hope this helps!

Nothing; it sounds like you have an eating disorder, or are on the verge of one.

If you feel bad about eating, then reach for something healthy.
