okay so i am 16 years old/female and i have only gotten my period once.. when i was 14. i think this is really wierd because like i have gone through every other part of puberty, like im done growing and my boobs are big and everything. when i did get my period it was a full 6 days and i dont know why i never got it again. it was late to begin with too since i have been the same height and stuff since i last got it. my parents say want to take me to get blood work done and im scared though. what could be the reason for not getting it? i've also never had sex and i also get a normal amount of discharge. help please!!!!

PunkieFreak4690 answered Monday January 15 2007, 3:22 am: You should contact a Gynocologist first before doing bloodwork. Or if you already have, then doing bloodwork could give answers to your problem.
Certain things may be the reason:
*You could have a blood condition where it will prevent you from getting periods.
* If you exercise heavily, very athletic [or opposite] like morbidly obese, that could be another explanation.
*Your weight is always flunctuating. When this happens, your hormones get messed up.
*They also get screwed up during puberty. Teenage years is where you get the most irregular periods.
*Depression, anxiety, Insomnia, or any other Psychiatric/mental conditions could irregulate your period.
*Taking certain drugs, prescription medicines, OTC medication, and illegal substances can irregulate them.
So you should really see a Gyno, a family Doctor, and still consider getting bloodwork done.
Sabine answered Monday January 15 2007, 1:21 am: Are you very thin or athletic? That might explain your lack of periods. Whatever the reason, it wouldn't hurt to go see a doctor and possibly get blood tests. There are many different hormones that are necessary in the right proportions for having a period. Leuteninzing hormone, folicle stimulating hormone, estrogen, progesterone, and even testosterone in women must be balanced just right. Hopefully, the doctor will say nothing's wrong, but s/he can sometimes give you an approximately week-long course of artificial progesterone to see if it will induce periods. I hope you find either your answer or just some reassurance.
rockchick132006 answered Monday January 15 2007, 12:50 am: usually i dont say this, but your parents are probably right. you should probably go see a doctor or something. you really shouldn't be scared since it's just your period, but if you've only gotten your period once, and that was 2 years ago, most likey there's something wrong with your uterus(sp?) But, anyway, the sooner you find out the better. try to listen to me please. My name is Nikki and i'm 13 and i kno, you probably think i'm too young to know what i'm talking about and all that, but trust me. my freind went to the doctor the other day bcuz her mom was getting worried because she's almost 14 and she still hasnt gottne her period yet and the doctor said that if you still havent gotten it by the time your 14 or so, you should get it checked out right away. once again, please listen to me and see a doctor. if you need me for anything else, you can probably figure out what to do. My AIM is: rockchick132006. thanks for listening, (or at least reading this whole thing) ttys.
