dressing THE REAL ME.

Question Posted Wednesday December 27 2006, 5:58 pm

hey, well right now i dress sorta like everyone else in the world. hollister, ecko, abercrombie, you know those famous brands. i would like to start dressing differently. like leggings, ballet flats, chunky necklaces, and other trendy items. im afraid of the reaction my friends will have. i know i should just be myself and not care what others think. its hard tho.

I'm all for a big change, but I can understand being nervous about your friends' reactions. I would suggest easing into a big makeover. Start by buying a few accessories, like some jewelry or hats/scarves, some inexpensive stuff. The good thing about that is that if you change your mind & decide this new look isn't for you, then you haven't dropped a whole bunch of $$ on a whole new wardrobe already. :) Then, start wearing your hair and makeup differently, then maybe buy a cute pair of flats, then some clothes... you get the idea. But instead of leaping into one big trend all at the same time (i.e. leggings and flats), try mixing what you already have and some new items. Maybe you'll start a new trend? Plus, it's easy on you and your friends, so it's not like you're a completely different person. Good luck! :)

heyy. i know what your saying. i personally love hollister and abercrombie, but it gets really annoying because when i buy a shirt from hollister at school like 6 other people have the same one and as the other person said, we end up looking like clothes. its great that you want to start dressing differently, and that style that your aiming for is really cute & in. don't be worried about what other people think as long as you love the style. a lot of the trendy items that you want are at pretty popular stores like charlotte russe, forever 21, wet seal, rave, etc. i think that you should take the chance and dress differently. people will accept you and you will definitely stand out, in a good way instead of looking like a hollister/abercrombie clone. hope i helped and good luck with it!

I know how you feel. I think you should change, but not totally. like still wear hollister and abercrombie, & then just add the chunky necklaces, and some ballet flats. That way you can have both styles. Just wear what you wear now and throw on some of the leggings, flats, or necklaces, you know?

hope i helpedd :]

First of all I think it`s great that you want to change; and be different & wear pretty clothes besides hollister;abercrombie & all that. =) ♥ Well, you shouldn`t be afraid of what your friends are going to think if you start dressing differently than others, because if they are your 'true' friends, they will stick with you through any idea`s you make. =) I usually just ware anything cute & I also do wear hollister & all that stuff too, but I don`t care what other people think about me. If they like me for `me` great, if they don` too bad I`m not going to waste my time on them, because chances are I don`t like them either, & that`s how you should think. You only have one life; so spend it how you would like too; and I think it`s very cute when people dress all unique & cute =) So go for it; regardless of what people think about you =) ♥

Well if thats really how YOU want to dress then go for it..your friends are not your friends because of what you wear. Ofcourse they'll have opinions but who cares? If you like it then wear it. I love wearing all those things and my friends are usually fine with it. Sometimes i get "why would you wear that" "thats not in stlye" and im like well i like it lol! Be Yourself!!

People will respect you in the long run for doing what you want to do, regardless of their opinion. So, I think you should definitely dress different. Hollister & Abercrombie can get SO old and SO boring, since everyone wears it. Plus, since its so popular, everyone ends up getting the same clothes and looking like clones. Dare to be different and start your own trends! People might give you a bad reaction at first and say youre a "poseur" or you are trying too hard to be different. But, its just clothes! Chances are, they'll get used to it. Maybe you'll even start a trend and other people will start dressing the way they want to. ♥

I was in the same dillema as you, 'cause you see, my 2 friends & I were all tomboys and NEVER would wear pink, or anything like Hollister. HOwever, the year after we all did that, I started to dress girly. THey didn't like it, but I continued to wear it. They finally got used to it, because they realized that I DIDN'T CHANGE MY PERSONALITY. That's all that matters. So dress the way you want & if they're your real friends, then they'll come to accept you. Hope I helped!
