Question Posted Saturday December 23 2006, 2:08 am
for a while now i've been thinking that i may have ocd. heres some of the little things i do, and if i don't do them then i want to cry and my stomach starts to hurt and i feel so guilty.
-when i eat something colored, such as m&m's, i have to eat them in a certain order. like all the reds. then all the greens. or red, green, red, green.
-when i lay on my back i HAVE to cross my right ankle over my left.
-when i shoot a freethrow i dribble it 3 times and then spin, drop, spin, drop.
-i have to take out my right contact, then left.
-when i eat noodles, i have to eat three at a time.
-when i eat something i try to eat it in numbers so that when theres quite a few left, the number left is how many letters there are in the name of the guy i like.
-i have to sleep on my left side.
-i HAVE to drink my coke with a straw, even if its in a can.
-i have to put my right rubberband on my braces before i put my left one on.
-i have to straighten the left side of my hair before the right side.
-whenever i pop a pimple, puss has to come out of it. [gross, i know.]
-when i stand, i have to bend my leg so i appear shorter than i really am.
-i save ALL my receipts and put them in order from the date of the receipt.
-i have to save all the little tear off price things from price tags.
-i have to save all my movie tickets and put them in order of the theater i was in.
there's more..but it's hard to explain some of them. do any of you think this could be a sign of OCD? i've told my mom, but she thinks i'm kidding, and it's making me upset. but maybe i'm just overthinking..? what do you think?

People who suffer from OCD aren't just quirky but really unable to function in a normal world without medication or treatment. We're talking about people who spend 45 minutes dusting one shelf, or wash their hands until they're so dry they bleed, or pack rooms and rooms full of newspapers or napkins. It's rare and very extreme, and generally speaking a lot of people with real mental health issues aren't able to critically thing that they have a problem without outside help. i told my mom i had the over-sweating thing and she thought i was just trying to get medication
but yeah- i do think you have ocd- it might not be as serious as some cases though. some people go to mental facilities because it takes them 30 minits to make sure their dinner plate is in the right spot and turned the right way, BEFORE the food is placed on it
it would make sence to go to the doctor, but like the other person said it doesnt seem like something that really affects your life.
now if you were failing english because your handwrighting was bugging you too much, then THAT would be a real problum.
its not that wierd or annything if you have ocd, but it isnt something you want to have sence it IS a type of dissorder.
hope i helped

VainTaraLynn answered Saturday December 23 2006, 2:55 am: I think that it might be a sign of some obsessive behaviour. See, OCD people absolutely HAVE to do those things. If they dont their life is ruined, and they do it without even thinking. If you absolutely have to do these things, or its really traumatic you most likely have OCD. If you are able to go a day without doing them, then you just might be obsessive about certain things. I'm the same way. My OCD consists of counting, and things related to personal items such as my laptop and cleaning and such.
Things like that dont seem like a real problem and you wouldnt need medication for them. It doesnt seem to be effecting your life in anyway. The people who get diagnosed with it and need medication for example.. If whenever they see a red car they have to shout as loud as they can. That would be something that would effect their life. What you have is actually very good, because it will keep you in order. Most people would kill to compulsively be that way.
If you really cannot stand doing this, then mention it to your mom again and say that you really would like to get evaluated. You will then have to go to the doctor and tell them the symptoms that you have, or do this online assessment [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
then print your results and take them to the doctor with you. They will then refer you to a psychologist where you can go and get examined.
theymos answered Saturday December 23 2006, 2:46 am: could be, but even if you do, it's nothing to worry about unless you're unhappy with it. If you want to stop doing those things, first try your best, and if you can't, see a psychiatrist and they'll help you. [ theymos's advice column | Ask theymos A Question ]
