Question Posted Tuesday December 19 2006, 3:22 pm

I have my big winter dance coming up on February 3rd. I am a 15 year old female, 5'5 and 163 pounds. I desperatly need to lose weight. Here are my problems:
-I love to eat
-I eat wayy too much
-I don't have enough time to excersize a lot
-I drink 1-2 sodas a day

I have 45 days to get into shape. I'd like to lose 30-40 pounds.

Here's what I'm looking for:
-Pills
-Drinks
-Powders
that speed up matabalism or just make me lose weight all together.

Most of you will say, "Don't use those things, just excercise and eat right." Yeah well being heavy runs in my family and I've tried the excercise and eat right thing and I'm just not getting the results I want.

What I'm looking for from you:
- Specific brands of pills, drinks, or powders
- Maybe even different types of excersies

Thank you so much!

I have a few tips and facts for you:

1. Pills are a terrible idea. They will work short term but as soon as you stop taking them, you will put all the weight back on and then some.
2. Eliminating ALL soda, you will lose 15 pounds over a one year period by just doing that.
3. Eat breakfast EVERY morning. Try eating maybe a yogurt, apple, cereals with not alot of sugar in them.
4. For snacks, try eating fruits and vegetables instead of sugars.
5. Portion your meals. When you eat spaghetti, put it in a one cup measuring cup. Try portioning all of your meals so you don't over eat. If you feel like you are going to over it, ruin your food. Pour water into it or something like that. It will make you not want to eat anymore of it.
6. Powders aren't good for you either, they require a vast amount of water to be consumed and if you don't drink enough water, you can really screw up your kidneys/liver.
7. Drink alot of water. It will make you feel full when you are eating and drinking water.
8. The majority of the time when you feel hungry, you are actually thirsty so try drinking water.
9. It takes 20 minutes for your brain to tell you that you are full so eat slowly.

Since you don't have alot of time for exercising, run up and down your steps like 5-10 times a day, back and forth.

Good luck!

Well... what I suggest is that when trying to lose weight you just have to start by going cold turkey. It might be hard eating lunch while everyone is having cheese fries and pop but it will be all worth it. You should start out in the morning have something healthy and its proven that people who eat a breakfest weigh less. Don't eat pop-tarts for breakfast because thats just eating straight sugar in the morning have some fresh fruit but not to much because you have to watch your intake. Don't just eat a couple of grapes though have some nice raisin bran or some healthy thing in the morning. Make sure its something you like and eat till your comfortable but not all the way full. Make sure you start making your own lunch so its your decision to pick what you want to eat. Bring a water bottle a turkey sandwich, a sugarfree granola bar, and other good stuff for example. You should start having 8 glasses of water a day because water is really good for you. Now for an after school snack I know its really tempting but you have to make the right choice and get yourself in the right mind set. Have a glass of water, some cheese and crackers, or some graham crackers. Then comes dinner and theirs food everywhere you have to make the choice and do well. If your going to have milk have fat free milk because its better for you. Make sure you never starve yourself or make yourself throwup because that would be horrible no eating disorders. When it comes to excerise you can just simply walk outside for a half an hour. What really works for me is doing crunches but a lot of sets of them to get good abs. With exercise do what you like but you have to push yourself also. It sounds confusing I know but you'll see what I'm saying once you start. Once a week you should go on the scale if you want to to see how your doing. Sometimes if you go on the scale and it says you gained a pound but that doesn't explain how you feel about yourself. Don't boot yourself down this is going to be a long process but you will succeed if you do really well. If you eat well you'll feel well because you know that your putting good things into your body. With exercise you really got to push yourself and maybe have someone exercise with you so its not as boring. All those diet pills, powders, and stuff doesn't work because if you notice on the bottom of the tv it says with diet and exericse and sometimes the diet pills can take a bad toll on you and plus there not good for you at this age anyways. I know thats not what you want to hear but thats the truth. Your really going to have to stick with this if you want results. Anything is possible!!! I hope I helped!! =D

okay,
so i don't think that you should go to big on this weight loss thing becasue somtitimes it can get really out of hand. You may become anorexic(when you basicly starve you self and you could die)which is not good. If you want to still be in good shape however, that is good to. Every day you should do at lest 30 situps, it is good for your abbs, and it helps you get stronger as well. Also, ask your mom to use some of her weights (if she has any)! go jogging with some friends at least twice a week!! As for the pills and stuff, they really never work. I wouldn't try them becasue some of them could really damage your health. :-)

-------> Hope I was Helpful!

no offense but that can't be done in such little time. In 45 days you could probably lose around 10-15 pounds but that means excersizing everyday and eating heathy. Salad's, chicken, NO junk food, only tea or water, NO soda. So around 3-4 small meals a day and 2 snacks(the 100 calorie snacks) If you take the pills, or powders, and drinks, once you stop your most likely to gain the weight back in other places then before, and pills aren't good for your heart at a young age. If you want something heathly see if you have HERBAL LIFE where you live, they give you shakes (which you make, its a powder), small snacks and pills/vitamans. This is alot healthier and it works really well. It does cost alittle more but its worth-it. Hope i helped.

Daimeera is right. Those things are no good. In the wrong hands they can be downright dangerous.

The weight target you have put is not achievable. If you come anywhere near that target it will not be fat that you have lost. The only way to lose as much as that, in that short a time period is through starvation. That means that you will digest your muscle mass first, you will have ruined your metabolism, and you may get health problems. The 2 pounds a week max is correct.

Eating right and exercise does work. If you havent got the right results it means you didnt eat right. Dont take this the wrong way, most people have a really really wrong perception of what proper nutrition is.

I will leave you with a link to a weight loss question I answered before. Read it if you like, it will give you a starting point from where to build a proper diet.

[Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

Also, that special k diet sounds pretty bad to me. Not enough nutrients, not the right proportions of nutrients, and eating too few times a day.

I know you didnt want this answer, but I had to chime in here. You are so young and have more time ahead of you than you realise. Dont panick now and do something that might have negative consquences later in life. Particularly not when it can be done right.

Good luck.

Daimeera answered Tuesday December 19 2006, 5:14 pm:
You absolutely cannot safely lose that much weight in 45 days. The recommended maximum of weight loss per week is two pounds. Since 45 days is just over six weeks, that means the most you should lose over that period of time is 12 pounds. Even that won't be easy if you're not willing to work for it.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but it is the reality.

It IS about what you eat and how much you exercise. Examine your "healthy" foods--you might find that they're not so healthy. Keep track of how much you're exercising and build on that.

Also, results take time. It typically takes about two weeks for me to see the effects of changes in exercising or eating habits, so perhaps you gave up too early.

You have two choices--be healthy, or make yourself sick. Making yourself sick is the only way to come close to losing that much weight, and chances are good that even then, you won't lose a whole lot more than if you'd been healthy to begin with. Not only that, but you'll mess up your metabolism, almost guarantee future weight gain, put yourself at risk for an eating disorder, and generally be miserable.

Be patient and be persistent. Most of all, be healthy.

There's really no other solution, much as we might all want one.

well..in this..i can slightly relate to you. i weigh pretty much the same as you..and i am the same height.
i saw this kind of diet i liked. its called "special k diet". for the first two meals a day eat a bowl of special k and a peice of fruit. and then, for the third meal, eat anything under 500 calories. you can still drink your normal sodas also.
it says you will lose a jean size every two weeks if you continue doing it.

for excersises? i just kind of walk around the house/walk home from school (its a thirty five minute walk..).

i've been trying this for a week and i already lost a few pounds..so maybe it shall work for you?

just don't try and overwork yourself.
