AskAndy answered Monday December 18 2006, 10:53 pm: Depends on how old you are. Adults shoud have 5-7, 8 on a good day, and teenagers and kids should have 8 minimum, 7 on a bad day. Earplugs and eye covers should help. Now it wouldnt seem like they would do much, but thing is when your sleeping, the earplugs muffle the slight noises that may wake you up. They dont completely block them, but they block them enough for peacful sleep. The eye covers will dim any bright light that would disturb you. The eye cover may disturb enough, if you dont like things on your head, but if items around you wont bother you im positive this should work. [ AskAndy's advice column | Ask AskAndy A Question ]
theymos answered Monday December 18 2006, 10:46 pm: between 6 and 9 hours of sleep. 9 is optimal, but more than 9 can be unhealthy. For the noises, place something with continuous noise in your room, like a fan; it'll cover up other noises, but not wake you up because you get used to it. peebles7 answered Monday December 18 2006, 10:43 pm: some people say 9, but i personally think that's overkill. it all depends on how much stress you have in your life. only 2 hours are needed to restore us physically, so the rest depends on your brain. 6-7 is fine, but aim for 7-8. Also, since you're a light sleeper, try a sound machine, it's just a small machine that you set to sound like the ocean, or wind, or crickets, or whatever you want which can make it easier to sleep and block out other noises. also check for watches, clocks, cell phone noises...etc that could make noise in the middle of the night and wake you up. goodluck!
