duudee_advicer answered Thursday December 7 2006, 7:55 pm: If you're looking to start a 'trend' you have to do something new and "out there" leggings, a skirt, and Uggs aren't exactly new and out there, just to clear that up.
This is important: Just because something has Abercrombie, American Eagle, or Hollister on it doesn't make it instantly cute. You have to know how to put an outfit together, don't just wear all the hot labels. I wear a nice Hollister shirt with jeans from Target and get just as many compliments or more then I would if I just wore Hollister that day.
As for the trying new things. I've got a couple different things I do that people always tell me they love, so here they are. Try buying a longer plain colored polo and putting a colorful (coordinating) or patterned belt OVER the shirt about at your waist level. I do this alot, and it always seems to bring in compliments.
Also, try crazy patterned flats with a plain colored shirt (again, try a belt or a long hanging necklace)
Accessories can make or break the outfit. Go for coordinating (not tacky) necklaces, bracelets, rings, or earrings. Don't wear them all at once, try one or two at once.
As one person said below me you could try a long shirt with just leggings underneath. I also like wearing Victoria Secret sweatpants with a totally different color top.
Try getting into layering- go for a crazy pattern underneath a matching/coordinating shirt. I layer up to three/four shirts at a time, those also bring in compliments. Besure you don't over do it, stick to a matching color scheme, don't do every color of the rainbow in one outfit. (Ie: Try a flowered long sleeve shirt over a black polo with a white belt)
Remember, just because somethings 'in' doesn't mean its flattering to your body. Infact, I think its hillarious when people try the new styles and they don't fit right and just make them look tacky. If you think a shirt is totally cute but it doesn't fit you right, don't buy it, trust me it'll just waste your money.
For your hair, this could also make or break your outfit. If you wearing something more plain, make your hair curly or wavy, or try some new random style with it. If you're outfit consists of layers+accessories and such, try a straight low pony tail, or let your hair hang down. Mix it up though, this will also help with the style.
For shoes, vary it. Don't wear the same ones everyday. Flip flops in winter are a big no. They're super tacky. Try boots (not just Uggs, those get old FAST) of different shapes and sizes, try cute flats (they make tons of those) also try some cute tennis shoes or high heels. Mix these up too.
ImFakingHotPink answered Thursday December 7 2006, 7:17 pm: Well from what you have said, I guess you can consider yourslef 'stylish' but it's all been done already. Some preppy things you could add to your list would be extra long shirts with just leggings and slip ons/flats- with a long necklace would make the outfit complete. Dark skinny jeans, the ones with zippers on the bottom especially (you can get them at urban outfitters or gap) slip ons/flats in a brightish color, and a sort of punk rockish shirt is cute. Add a few rings and you'll be set. [ ImFakingHotPink's advice column | Ask ImFakingHotPink A Question ]
AskAndy answered Thursday December 7 2006, 7:10 pm: get a few pretty silk scarves and instead of wearing them with skirts or jeans wear it around your head, not hippy style, but to keep your hair out of your face, kinda like a headband, and tye it around the side of your head so it goes to your shoulders. It looks cute. Get a smaller version of one of those and wear a ponytail either really high in the center, or to the sides and use the same idea, like the headband and tie it around the front. there shouldnt be any extra material left. Then wear pajama pants to school. Not nerdy ones but like sweatpants that are close to looking like pajama pants. Wear funny socks and buy a north face jacket if you dont have one already. wear huge belts around your waist and wear funny socks that people can see if your wearing those slip on brown shoes..crocs i think. thats wut the preps do in my school. clouded_bluee answered Thursday December 7 2006, 6:44 pm: Just so you know you didn't start those trends.
There's no more other cute things you can do from abercrombie. There's the skirts with the leg warmers and flip flops. Their not like leggings. they go on your cavles. It's really cute. Another thing is the button up shirts (long sleves with the collar) and have a cashmere sweater over it. But other wise everything is done. If they have an Urban Outfitters where you live check that store out, they have alot of new trends but it's different then abercrombie, but just as nice. x0Abercrombiex0 answered Thursday December 7 2006, 6:26 pm: Just like you, i am a preppy person also. I wear turtlenecks and fluffy scarves. With little snow caps in the winter. I am into the whole "sweater thing" and not many kids are seen in my school in turtlenecks, i personally think they are really nice.
Another great idea is wearing a shorter shirt with a longer shirt underneath it!! it looks really good.
One that goes about 3 inches or 4 of your belly button than layer it iwht a shirt underneath it.. it looks good [ x0Abercrombiex0's advice column | Ask x0Abercrombiex0 A Question ]
Flaggal answered Thursday December 7 2006, 6:19 pm: I know that wearing long v-neck sweaters are back and it looks really good when you layer it over wit thick belts. Black and gray haven't really been in style...so maybe you can start a trend wit those colors -but i kinda figured out ur preppy so that might not work. You could mix like 18 different colors...it'll look cute...i guess...WELL....Hoped i helped
