For all you tampon girls.... Ok, so I am 13, and I still havent started my period yet. I know its coming up soon, but I dont know what to do about tampons. I am on the swim team, so I know that I will have to use them. All my friends have started and I know that they have figured out the "tampon deal" But, I just dont know how to insert or what. A bajillion people out there have already used these, and I need advice QUICK before time runs out. I dont want to talk to my mom because that is just a little awkward for me. Anyone got any advice???

I had the same problem when I got my period last year. [I'm 14]. It's quite easy. You can get any brand of tampons, but I reccomend Playtex, Tampax, or Kotex. Since you are a first time user, try looking for tampons made especially for you. I was also embarrased when I had to ask my mom on how to insert a tampon, but don't be. After she showed me, I was very comfortable and could easily do it right away. But here's how..
Lay on your bed or sit on the toilet, and spread your legs apart. Relax, and take off the wrapper from the tampon. [Make sure you wash your hands first] Then, with the plastic applicator, slowly insert it into your vagina. Hold the little rim at the bottom of the plastic applicator, and the end of the tampon, and push the part at the bottom up, so the plastic tube slides out. Put it in the trash, and you're done. :] If that sounds confusing, try looking for instructions on the outside of the box or look for the paper inside.

i've only had my period for less than half a year, actually i have it right now, and i began wearing tampons the second time.
i recomned playtex, the tampons are really good and have different levels of absorption.i first started to wear pads, but there uncomfotorable and always leave me worrying about stains. you should practice wearing tampons by using a mirror, you should lay down on your bed, thats most comftorable. you should open up your vagina by opening the skin flaps so you can see the whole, then gently relax your muscles and slowly slide the tampon in. if you need more help on how to insert it, you should buy a tampax box of tampons and it has a little sheet of paper in the box that has more help. if you will continue to use pads, i suggest you wear two pads at once, for maximum protection, or just get heavy duty pads. you should start practicing to use tampons, and i got the hang of it in about a half an hour. remember though, you should keep tampons in for only 6-8 hours, other wise it clogs your vagina and you can get TSS. with tampons, you don't need to worry about staining anything, and when you put them in right, you won't be able to feel a thing. Also, you need to push the tampon in really deep, otherwise it will hurt.

You just put it in. If it's uncomfortable, move it around until it feels better. That's basically all there is to it. It's not hard. As said by the previous columnist, there are instructions that come in the box too. Don't worry about this. You will be just fine. If you just can't stand it, check this website out.

Good luck. :) ]
in the tampon box is an instruction sheet(with diagrams). maybe pick up a box and read them and practice so you'll have it down when your period comes. ]
